i have to agree. While I like both versions I think the simplicity and absence of distractions in the first verses of the live version give the song more power and emotion. Still one of the best songs on the album though.
  3. the live version sounds more raw but I don't dislike the studio version, I like that there's more happening in the background
  4. I don't know if thats because of the version I got but to the the instrumentals sounds more loud than B's voice
  5. First seconds impression velvet dress. Silky bass
  6. The problem with live recordings is that they suck to my ears. Every time I hear a live recording of songs I believe they suck. But then I went to see them in Tampa this year.... amazing. And I know that the live recordings suck. I can’t wait to hear to live *properly*
  7. Cross posting from Interference here because I have to keep gushing about this song.

I didn't think they'd be able to improve on the live version, but the album version takes it to a new level. Introduces so many textures, layers, and dynamics that just elevate it. This whole album is worth it for this song along. It's the best song they've released since Moment of Surrender, and is quickly becoming one of my all time favorite U2 songs. Listening to it right now smiling like an idiot as it builds towards the end. I'm so happy.
  8. I don't like how the song builds up toward the first verse and then when the verse starts the music drops. I do like the textures in this song compared to the live version's piano but there was something to that delayed gratification live when it all came together and the guitar came from out of nowhere and the song just exploded. Studio version teases too much.
  9. Songs like this make me want U2 to stay around forever. They can still write absolutely amazing songs, and this album has many of them.
  10. The only thing I miss compared to the last few live performances is the emotion and energy he put into the final "Sometimeeeeeeeeeeeees". The album ending is a bit low-key. Other than that, incredible.

And the only thing I miss in comparsion to the live (Kimmel) version is the strong synth at the top of the climax. But the first part is definitely much better and interesting on the album.
