  5. I think the lyrics are better then on SOI , thought is much more longer connected through and the lyrics are less poppy ....I love SOI very much ...butt this is way better ....If we take few songs from SOI and from SOE ...what and album it will be...OMG !!!

Once it hit the Noughties, NME was completely refocused once the indie explosion happened, now employing music journalists with an agenda who form preconceived opinions and generally do not appreciate what they consider as "dated" stadium rock artists.     You may well be right. The point I wanted to raise was: if U2 were exactly as they are, but British or, better, English, how would they be treated by the British press? Would they still get so much hate? I concede that I might have gotten carried away in my earlier comment; now I am genuinely asking.
  7. Reviews are mixed. Oor (a bit cynical music magazine in Holland) don't give an exact rating but they put it right above SOI (which wasn't well received back then). De Morgen (Belgian site) is quite positive on the other hand.

    Every single site starts their review with the failure of the SOI/Apple-launch. Biggest mistake of a lifetime. It still haunts them. And it's a bit of a trend to bash U2.

    ITS funny how U2 still get blamed for the SOI crap, People should learn to read their apple terms of service! haha

    Movies, gossip, politcis and many others themes , music is no more the most important thing. The article about Rolling Stone and u2 is clear, is only a critic to a man , the title ist terrifci, the text seems to be written by a jealous schoolboy, imo
  11. The question is though: was it really a mistake for U2 to release SOI like that?

    I still meet lots of people who still play a lot of U2 and listen to U2 regularly because of what they did with SOI. Sure, it didn't win them the popularity price but thanks to it they reached a lot more people. Maybe that's what's way more important.
