I think the importance of context is a very good point. It's impossible for your opinion on something to not be influenced by everything else you've experienced throughout your life. And that's especially true when it comes to how we experience and perceive art. And when we're talking about a band who's releasing their FOURTEENTH album and a band that has been part of most of our lives for decades now, everything they've done before and everything we know about them plays such a huge role in shaping our thoughts on the new stuff they're doing now. It's really impossible to divorce all of that context from our thoughts and listen to a record as if it's the first U2 record we've heard. If SOE was the first rock record you ever heard It would probably blow your mind. So when someone says "Just take the record for what it is, don't compare it to everything else" it's really not possible to truly do that.

A music critic I enjoy quite a bit made a really great video about this a few years ago where he explained this much better than I ever could. It's worth a watch I think (if you're an impatient person, consider skipping forward to about the 4:55 mark).

  3. In the end....WE WILL ALL LOVE IT
And in 2044 maybe we'll remember it as an awful lp
  4. wow, is out in Australia, we should expect a leak any moment now...

for buying tickets will be available to use soon as well if you're searching for the digital version.

Plus, I have the box-set listed as a Christmas wish-list item, and I will probably buy the physical deluxe version at a local record store tomorrow as well.
