1. All those songs have grit. You can keep telling yourself that their is joyful defiance but I dont hear defiance. Sounds like coffee shop rock. Safe Rock

What's "gritty" about those songs? When I hear "shouldn't be here cuz' I should be dead" - I don't think coffee shop rock lol. Coffee shop rock is like Santana and Rob Thomas.

Without going into a full analysis lol.....Bad sings about being a herion addict climaxing with Im wide awake, Im not sleeping which you get is from the addict. That is gritty both musically and lyrically. The lyric you quoted is with lyrics against a pad. Pretty soft and safe sounding

Is there a song you can enjoy from this album?

You're sending mixed messages here...I thought you were talking strictly about the music. And anyway, the lyrical content of Bono nearly dying isn't gritty? Talking about seeing "lights"?

And speaking about music, Bad is far from gritty, especially compared to Lights of Home. In Bad, Edge is playing super delayed, clean chimey notes, Adam is playing a smooth jazzy bass, there's that flute pad that sounds like a bird, and the synth arpeggio that's repeating in the background. Sure the lyrical content might be gritty, but it's also uplifting and liberating, and it's meant to be. Bad morphed from being about a terrible drug addiction to a song of "letting go".

Anyway, I stand by that grit doesn't equate to quality, and that many of U2's best songs aren't "gritty" at all. A Sort of Homecoming, Mercy, etc.

I hope you don’t take this the wrong way because I am being playful but damn doesn’t it get tiring battling everyone who doesn’t agree? Lol. I gotta give you points for your effort. U2 should hire u. I give u a ton of credit for not just bashing but instead bringing valid points but I get tired just reading! Haha.

I've had a slow week But truly, I enjoy the discussion, and when I don't see eye to eye with someone on something I love, I need to know why, I need to get to the bottom of it. I'm not trying to be rude, and I apologize if I ever am. It's easier when someone just says "I don't like it," because there's nothing for me to disagree with
  8. I’m just happy that the people who don’t like the album are in the minority.
  9. Still evaluating and reevaluating this album on a daily basis.
One thing I can say for sure though: I don't see any song on this album as a filler - which is more than can be said for any other album the last 20+ years, at least going back to Zooropa.
  10. I am too. I’d never root against u2. Even if I don’t like the album
