1. u2 cannot win..
  2. Conspiracy theory: Reviewers intentionally create negative reviews as a form of click-bait...Best site traffic for them all year!
  3. I've read tons of reviews of this album now - it's split 50-50 love/hate.
Which is fine - Pitchfork/Consequences/etc... they hate most things other than the latest folksy hipster/hip-hop/dance electronic pop sensation that might last a year until they fail to get a slot at a franchised SXSW venue and then they're gone forever.
This 50/50 split is a good thing. U2 have done out on a limb and done something that wasn't expected.
I've read many comments on here asking for the old Edge sound to come back. But, why? Sure it's a great sound, but would a painter want to paint with the same colours all the time, or a chef cook with the same ingredients. Been there, done that. Save that sound for when they need to pull one out of the bag.
At the end of the day, U2 dare to defy. They're creative, and an inspiration for people who are young at heart and refuse to follow what society dictates they must do (like a greatest hits Steel Wheels type of tour).
I love this band. Creativity wins.
And we are the richer for it.

Now, really? GOOYOW is one of the most classic U2 sounding tracks of the album!
GOOYOW sounds nothing like Arcade Fire, I don't know where that critic is getting it from.
  5. I really love these "similarities"...
  6. I'd be curious to know the age of that reviewer...

I once read a concert review saying Alice Cooper's stage show "looked conspicuously Marilyn Manson-esque" LMAO.
  7. If anything sounds like Arcade Fire it’s Crystal Ballroom. But GOO?! OOEY GOOEY?! Nah.
