Acrobat to me just sounds like a jam (which is in fact where it came from, it's a song based on a jam at a soundcheck in Australia on the Lovetown tour) with some sort of throwaway platitudes on top courtesy of Bono. I'm not saying it's a BAD song, but I don't think it's better than anything else on that album, frankly. The song doesn't really go anywhere dynamically for me, it sort of just starts intense and stays the same for 5 minutes. It's like a live recording they had and Eno went "this is done." Yeah it's interesting and cool, but the rest of the album is so clearly and cleverly put together, and this song sort of lacks that for me.
I'm rambling, but I really don't think it's as good as so many around here think it is. I'd take the album version of Trying To Throw Your Arms Around The World ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. That song is just vibes galore. I know what you're thinking, "this guy is fucking nuts", and that's fine
Same seems to be going for this song. I love the "sound" of it, but the song itself to me is sort of "meh", and it sounds like a b-side, and I'm glad it was kept as one.

I'd argue that "Trying" has more of a place on the album than Acrobat does, which to me is just awkwardly placed there near the end. There's no other sort of "chill" song on the album, nor was there any song like that in U2's career before that. A love song about drinking too much. I love it.
Of course I'm arguing this for the sake of discussion, as I love Acrobat, but it is my least favourite song on the album. The only one that maybe beats it is So Cruel, but I don't think so.

Really? Achtung to me is so great, it is very difficult to say "worst song." Perhaps Wild Horses as that Vacant Lot line is pretty corny, but I think the production and sound of the album is remarkably consistent. As I posted above, I am starting to get sick of albums having the same exact production and specifications, or strict rules. Sure, I don't want a bluegrass song and Auto Tune, but U2 have played it safe for long. Their string of albums with the same type of production was crazy good but got a bit stale around NLOTH, which I still love. Now the Stew of SOI and SOE with the trendy production of Ryan Teddy Bear Tedder, Jacknife Lee, etc, really does not sound all that innovative. Sure Lanois and Eno were getting a bit stale, but I'd rather then Lillywhite, Eno and Lanois just produce them and forget about the musical chairs of the biggest fad production. Book Of Your Heart belongs on the album for this reason...sick of them throwing great songs aside.
