    U2 are Irish [ I am part of the Irish Catholic Diaspora ] - desperately uncool
    [ like me - bar Larry ] no real Rock lineage there and the British Music Press deep down resents the fact that an Irish brotherhood with no lineage [ even though British Rock lineage in the great pantheon - Beatles, Zep, Stones, The Who is all cultural theft ] appropriate The Clash, Joy Division, and....cared and stuck together. Oh and were bloody Christians. I love the fact that they are still together. I love their earnestness. I love the fact that their best songs are ours.

    They belong to you and I.

    Bono knows it too.

    I love the fact I hear the ' light ' when I listen to them.


    So - the new album - U2 are running the last race. I am running it with them.
    An utterly divisive album by the divisive band.

    Where do I stand?

    With them. They care far, far too much.

    A lovely quality.

    I LOVE U2. Treasure them before they are gone.


    Err no rock lineage in Ireland ? Rory Gallagher...Thin Lizzy...The Undertones....Horselips etc etc
  3. Great interview. He’s behind the best songs on the album by the sounds of it.

    Sole producer on next album? I hope so. If he could nail Little Things where U2’s hall of fame of producers couldn’t, I mean c’mon.

    Although in the liner notes, Thomas is the one that appears as main producer, right?

    Barlow gets All We Have Left and Book Of Your Heart.
    It doesn't change anything, though, I'd also love him to produce next album by himself.

    True true. I keep saying I find BOYH okay as a song, but the actual tone and atmosphere of it is fuckingg fantastic and one id love to see U2 go further with.
  6. I now only listen to Lights of Home string version and Best Thing acoustic. With BOYH as the closer, I really like the album. Not sure if it's better than Bomb. But it's amazing that these four guys are still pulling out such great tunes after 40 years together (with a little help from 9 friends, but I don't really care).

    yeah i wish they explore that type of sound.
    BOYH to me sounds different to anything else they have done.

    Thanks Joost! Needless to say I couldn't have done it without César and Alex. It's the love of this band and their music that makes us able to achieve these things

I love Lizzy and Rory but my point is they were simply Blues based rock acts and were never seen as part of [ an essentially narrow high brow British rock critic concept of ] the great rock lineage. U2's inspirations were initially British [ Bowie, Clash, Joy Division ] and American punk [ Joey Ramone etc ] - their earnestness has always been embarrassing to many - even some of the latest reviews slate them for trying too hard
