    This was a really, really remarkable interview. I especially loved the first half, where he had his discourse about how he views religion and faith and how that mixes in with their music/music in general. I also like the caveat that he put in there--that Paul's views on love and the eloquence with which he writes them don't excuse his views on women or LGBT folks--and I can tell that, although we've clearly come from vastly different backgrounds, we're both in this really uncomfortable place where we have to assess this thing (this giant framework of religion) that's been part of our lives for so long and grapple with its implications for the world we live in, its imperfections, and how that affects our relationship to it. He's more eloquent and does it on a grander scale and manages to create some beautiful art out of it, whereas I just kind of get angry and vent to my family or occasionally post online about it, but it's really neat to see someone that I look up to going through the same sort of religious/ideological struggle as I am.     Agree 100%. One of, if not THE, best interviews with Bono I’ve ever read. Pretty much everything I admire and respect about Bono as a musician, activist, and Christian contained here.
  5. He should catch a little criticism for the "girly" quote. I've always been an obsessive rock music fan but when I was young, I internalized the message that girls shouldn't even try to play electric guitar. Finally bought a Strat in my 40s and I'm kicking myself that I didn't start decades ago. "Young male anger?" F that, as a 14 year old girl I was blasting the Who at top volume. Young PERSON anger, Bono.

    Otherwise, great interview.
  6. As winner of Glamour's Woman of the Year award I think Bono gets a pass on calling rock music girly. Ok I couldn't type that out without laughing, I'm not 100% sure I get what he is implying. Maybe because modern rock is influenced by his older (self proclaimed girly voiced) material, rock got soft? haha
  7. Also can't take his criticisms of the "dude who shall not be named" seriously when he's off with mike the electric fence pence and george mission accomplished bush talking about Trump "ruining" the great republican party by winning a democratic contest lol

    edit: Actually I don't know if I've ever read a criticism against Trump by Bono except the attack on his dumb "idea" of America that Trump represents so lol, just lol if he holds an tentmaker writing letters 2000 years ago to a higher standard than politicians (Pence and GWB) running the most powerful country on earth (just be sure to smile while you drop the bombs and hate the gays).

    He has called Trump a liar. Which he is. I can understand not wanting to work with him because even a promise of aid could be a lie. Trump says what he thinks people want to hear from him.

    I also love that Bono doesn’t name him. Because Trump gets off on people talking about him and saying his name.

    As far as Bono is concerned, policy aside George Mission Accomplished Bush did get his mission accomplished coming to the table with AIDS funding. But, shame on him for his audacity to find evil republicans he can bring to the table for the greater good of the world. if he's willing to work with republicans, he must be an evil, capitalistic bastard and should be rounded up and shot with the rest of those republican bastards. is that what you're saying?

    you'd fit right in over in washington with that partisan mentality.
  10. Any very open-minded 50+ year old guy will say stuff that newer generations may find cringy.

    He'll say stuff like his voice sounded girly, or that poppy lovey songs are girly, but you know he acknowledges that what he's saying is just a generalization, cause when they were young they loved the rock of Heart and in this album they even used Haim's riff on one of their songs, not to mention how many times he has collaborated with women in the past.
    So it's not like he doesn't think that women are capable of playing Rock, or something like that.

    It was an unfortunate use of words for today's standards, but if be ridiculous if people pay more attention to it than the rest of the interview.

    And about Trump, Bono has been very tamed in his criticism, and very open about the need to stop dividing people and start healing.
    And he's been very open about being a total practical person who's focused on his known goals and accepting any help to reach them, from whoever that can help.
