1. Yep, go for it at half-price.

    Before I go any further, please note I'm fairly techno. illiterate lol;

Having just about had it with Rapidshare for the moment, I figured I'd just ask some questions techno- and Rapidshare related stuff if anyone can help. I've been getting the "too many wrong codes" and download sessions etc. on RS, and just now it said that my IP address was busy downloading a session, yet I went on http://www.myipaddress.com/what-is-my-ip-address/ and it said my IP address is completely different to the one that came up on RS just now. Clearly there's something wrong, but I'm wondering if there's an error with the way my IP address is actually being processed or something. What can affect it? e.g. would having both a wireless and a wired connection running through a broadband hub make any difference?

Apologies in advance for rambling nature of post lol...

EDIT - I tried a couple of things download wise, the John Legend Pride cover audio and that came up with a code to enter, so I figured I'd try it with a bootleg I wanted (the 1989 Point Depot gig) and it did the same, so I entered the code and then it came up with a thing saying that an error had occurred with 3 different possible explanations, none of which I think I come under lol (unless I'm subject to a proxy server without knowing it). I now just tried the New York 2004 (Fulton Ferry Park) show, and it says I've reached the download limit and to wait 53 minutes despite not actually having downloaded anything lol

  7. The Australian is here now, and I checked both topics as well, don't worry Ali...

What happens is IP addresses run in a 'range' type setup. For example, say your IP address is 187.98.87.12 - anyone who has a similar IP address like 187.98.87.13 is likely to be downloading something from a server with a similar IP addres and it confuses the 12 for the 13. It wouldn't matter because the first three sets of numbers are being used and that's what RapidShare goes on. There are some other suggestions to get around the problem:

    Short-Out the JavaScript:

    1. Goto the page you want to download
    2. Select FREE button
    3. In the address bar put the following: javascript:alert(c=0)
    4. Click OK
    5. Click OK to the pop-up box
    6. Enter the captcha
    7. Download Your File

    Request a new IP address

    1. Click Start
    2. Click run
    3. In the run box type cmd.exe and click OK
    4. When the command prompt opens type the following. ENTER after each new line.
    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    exit

That one won't work if your IP address is fixed. To check in Windows:

Click Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection (right-click) > Properties > Internet Protocol (TCP / IP) > Properties. If Obtain IP address automatically is checked then you will have to wait; otherwise you can change your IP at will.

Use a proxy with SwitchProxy and Firefox:

    1. Download and install Firefox if you have not already
    2. Download and install SwitchProxy
    3. Google for free proxies
    4. When you hit your download limit, clean your cookies and change your proxy

You could also try using AltaVista.com and click BabelFish. Translate the web page from Japanese to English - this has worked for me several times before.

About the wired vs wireless connections - if the two are sharing the same or similar IP address which they most likely can (is one or the other or both connected at the same time?) then one might be tripping up the other.

Cheers mate, will try them out! I don't have a fixed IP address it turns out, I wasn't aware that it changes whenever you disconnect from the net - our broadband is usually on all the time, but last night it turned itself off 3 times which would probably explain why the address changed (I got in touch with a technical mate of mine too, for another opinion )

EDIT Re. the wireless/wired, yeah they are both running at the same time through the same hub (when the net isn't trying to fuck up lol) - there are 2 laptops running on wireless and this computer which is running on a wired connection.

EDIT 2 - I got in touch with Rapidshare, and the only thing that they suggested that seems to be the explanation is that I'm running on a proxy server (despite the fact no one else downloads on RS in the house lol), so the question is how do you disable it? And would it affect the wireless stuff?
  10. Most of the ISPs here in Australia use a fixed IP address; most in England and parts of Europe use dynamic addresses.

It works by RapidShare recognising your IP before it determines that you're the same or a different user, but it seems to be getting confused for some strange reason, and depending on the file size locks you out. Usually if you download 100MB maximum, I think it is, it makes you wait 120-180 minutes, and you can guess for each size how long on average it makes you wait.

So another simple solution, now I know your IP address isn't static, is to switch off your router or hub - then wait a couple of minutes and switch it back on. You'll be given a new address for Christmas and then you can continue downloading - RS doesn't assume you have a dynamic address - essentially, how they make their money by continuous downloads.
  11. EDIT - cheers for the advice about the router, I'll give it ago and see what happens. If not, I'll have another hernia lol...

Are we talking power, internet or both?
  12. Just the modem by itself, that should do it.

Before you do, check the IP address and see the one after has changed. Otherwise, it could be you need to restart the computer with the modem switched off, then switch the modem back on and you should have a fancy new IP and that should work.

I was looking for anonymous proxy servers, but most don't get past RapidShare or Megaupload (but Megaupload is a lot fairer in restrictions - it usually allows about 4 or 5 200MB downloads until it makes you wait half a day or so, which is excellent.

For the rest of you, this might be some help to you when dealing with RapidShare and Megaupload:

Click Start > Run > cmd and try the following:

ipconfig shows your current IP address, subnet mask and default gateway
ipconfig /all shows the above information and lots more interesting bits
