    Read the quote I put. He said there were good people protesting on both sides, side 1 being pro-statue removal and side 2 being anti-statue removal. He specifically clarified he was referring to people there that were not neo-Nazis that were still anti-removal.

    Again. You can’t be a good person if you are on the side of a Neo-Nazi. You can’t. Any reasonable person would be “Oh Jeez. I can’t be seen with these people.”

    You need to get out of your own way. I am down to talk politics at any time and am really ok with disagreeing on how governments should run and what policies are more important.

    When it comes to basic human decency that is a whole other story. Lies, sexual assault, bullying, divisiveness, and racism are not politics.

    Anyway. The video is fine. It looks a bit rough at times but I appreciate the amount of work that went into it and definitely support the message behind it.

    That's indeed a bit ironic given the fact that U2 grew up in the middle of a civil war. A conflict between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland that seem to have no room for compromises. But I think it is good to realize that politics can be distinguished in implicit politics,
    and explicit politics.

    The early U2 started out with a strong implicit political message: the longing for peace and promoting shared values and believes - Sunday Bloody Sunday is a strong example of this implicit politics (No More War!). Starting perhaps with Live Aid, Bono's visit to Africa and the Conspiracy Of Hope tour in 1986 brought U2 in the realm of explicit politics.

    Now I believe these two sorts of politics have been going sort of hand in hand during the next part of their career. In the 1990-ies ZOO TV and PopMart were mainly Art projects with a rather implicit political message. The satellite link-up to Sarajevo during the war in former Yugoslavia was another great example of the strong "No More War" message deep in heart of everything that U2 stands for.

    Then in 2000 came the Drop The Debt campaign (Jubilee 2000), which evolved into the One campaign starting back in 2005. From that moment on the political message of U2 became more and more explicit, but the strength and success of the One campaign was built on the core principle of shared believes and mutual ground on both political sides. Particularly in America this was of great importance. The political side of U2 had become a lobby. And quite successful I might add.

    But with the election of Trump things changed drastically as one side of the political spectrum didn't seem interested anymore in finding common ground. And obviously U2 - with Bono as their lead spokesperson - is struggling with this new political fact enormously because the basic principle of their success as lobbyist has been shattered: one side of the political spectrum rejects the common ground. The denial of Climate Change might be the most striking example because if there is one ground "common" it is the face of our planet Earth.

    The new video of Get Out Of Your Own Way has taken U2 into new territory by explicitly delving into the political conflict in the United States.
    But I don't think it is condemning President Trump as such, but merely showing what he stands for. Those white pointy heads should be
    a concern to everyone, but I'm afraid all that nuance is lost as this video - and with it U2 - is spun as being anti-Trump.

    We are now in a "you are either with us, or against us" situation. And U2 and their fans are sucked into that. We have become one side of the conflict when all we want is: No More War !!!

    But at this point it seems hat we first have to go to war, in order to end the war. That is not good. Not good at all. And it is not what a wise person should do.
  9. I get why people don’t like Trump. But I voted for him and I support him for various reasons. It’s an insult that people on the left in the US or from any country believe Trump supporters are racist. As well as people in this forum.
    He was voted in for various reasons. The least of which he supports or leads the KKK. His supporters want a healthy economy and a secure country. And the way he’s getting stuff done, I wouldn’t be suprised if he gets in again in 2020. Our last two Presidents didn’t get the job done. And people knew Hillary would have been more of the same.

    I only watched part of the video. I know my favorite band are political and they oppose Trump for their own reasons. That’s fine. I still like the new album. I do think they are alienating many of their fans though in the US.
    So the left and U2 can continue to be anti-Trump and protest against him. Call his supporters racist. Instead of trying to understand why middle America voted him in to begin with. And the media can continue to do the same shitty reporting they’ve done for the last decade. And Hollywood can continue to cry and threaten to move out of the country.
    2020 will be here sooner than we think.

    OK. There is a thin line here to talk about (American) politics and the latest video of Get Out Of Your Own Way. I understand that. And some lenience must be given here, but I do urge you - and everyone - to keep this topic free from bashing. I think this post is leaning towards bashing
    (I taste some bitter words!) and it will likely provoke others to comment with bitterness too.

    This must be avoided and it is a responsibility for everyone.

    As I pointed out in my writing above, it is no wise to go to war with each other. And as a moderator on U2START I will do my utmost to keep the peace.

    If people - anyone! - doesn't comply to this call for self- moderation, the moderation team WILL take measures necessary to keep the peace.

  12. Regardless of the video, (and the political core of the song with which I vehemently disagree) the song is excellent. I really enjoy the mix, too.
