Apparently the tickets "will be ready 1 hour before the event". That sounds unnecessarily troublesome, especially if you've bought GA. Surely a massive queue will build up and you'll inevitably be waiting all day.

Has anyone taken this option in the past? I had thought the box office would be open earlier to allow people to pick up their tickets well in advance of showtime.

Yes, you just enter the U2.com code on the relevant ticket seller (Livenation?) web page.
