How is this dumb? Someone saw something , rumor or not, and wanted to discuss it. Is that only allowed when it’s positive?

When did I say it was dumb? When did I imply Larry retiring would be a negative thing or that only positive things were allowed?
My joke was specifically about the nature of this thread and how it reminds me of TMZ or those magazines that are rife with rumours and bad sources regarding the personal lives of celebrities.
Ease up. The policing on this website lately of people trying to tell other people what they can and can’t say (negative or positive) is getting really annoying. People are overly sensitive, it’s getting to be a little much. To be more specific, I see more people saying “oh we can’t say this now?” than people actually telling people what they can or can’t say. Like..relax. It was a joke.

We can call this an unverified rumor, a gossip, a hoax, hearsay, fabrication, or simply a lie, but not this dumb moniker.

Before you know it this sort of thing gets a life of it's own and Larry has to answer questions like "why are you retiring"
and all he can say is WTF...

I get that, but I just wish someone would ask him how happy he is in the band and if there are plans to retire. At least then the rumours would be put to bed

I disagree that "fake news" is an oxymoron. In this case it started somewhere as a hoax, or a (bad) joke. But then it was brought to u2start as being a rumour without checking sources.
So while the message is untrue, it was dressed up as "rumour" and as such it had the semblance of (show) news. But untrue an thus fake.
