Seriously though as an Irishman it is about time this referendum was held. Good old Catholic Ireland under the thumb of the church is long gone.

I don’t think you need to be a church goer to be against abortion in general. Of course the law in Ireland already allows for an abortion in the case where there are health risks to the pregnant woman and I think that’s sensible, I also think if it’s not already the case women who have been raped should also be allowed however apart from that I don’t think it’s acceptable. Just to clarify I’m not saying people who have had an abortion in other countries are bad people I just don’t think it should be legal. To me it is the murder of a child, having been to the 12 week scan of my daughter I can say it’s sickening to think they allow abortions up to this point, the scan essentially resembles a tiny person. It’s not religious grounds I’m against it on but moral grounds. That is only my opinion though and I realise when people have abortions they aren’t thinking of it as murder otherwise i’m Sure they wouldn’t do it.

    My thoughts exactly

Here's what the 8th amendment says.

“The State acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and, as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right.”

What is your definition of a "health risk"? The risk of death, yes, then there's the right to have an abortion.

But for serious health/mental health problems (which are not life threatening), there is no right to an abortion.

There is also no right to an abortion for serious foetal abnormalities, or for rape (I'm glad you'd like that changed).

I could get right into debate about it and I appreciate you having a sensible approach to the conversation with me but it’s something I won’t change my mind on and would rather leave it at that from my end at least in case i word something that may be perceived wrongly, I really don’t want to offend any women or families out there, I have a very strong view on the matter and don’t want to say anymore.
