they shouldn't have reused that crappy lyric in the first place, oh well
The whole thing is baffling to me lol
  2. Probably a good decision to get rid of a few songs from innocence but I have a question was the showman played or not because on here it says it was but on setlist FM it says it wasn’t

    It was a snippet.

Been a hardcore fan since the 80's and have been collecting U2 bootlegs since the 80's and like many here have an unthinkable amount of hours listening to U2. And from that... I know when they're having an off-night. It's a rarity but it happens. Last night was definitely an off-night, lots of unusual sloppy mistakes.

I think there are a couple of things that factor into that. Still finding their feet with the show, a little bit rusty still too perhaps and yeah even a little bit nervous, might take 5 or 6 shows for them to start finding their feet, and I've no doubt we're going to see some movement and chopping and changing in the setlist.

To me, it's no big deal that they had an off night, especially when you take into account all the great nights they've had down the years, and I'm sure it was still extremely enjoyable if you were there. But they definitely had an off-night, and for 3 songs to get dropped to make room for a shortened version of 'NYD' is a bit of an eyebrow raiser to say the least. But to go round saying people have low-esteem because they're picking up on such things is a wee bit strange and ridiculous to say the least.
I'd think they cut so many songs compared to the first night to protect Bono's voice...and they toured the JT, I could see how they'd want to skip it. I don't mind it

Yes odd. Plenty of songs were played every night on TJT and are still in the set. Plus St. Louis JT show was canceled so if they were gonna bring out any songs, last night would of been a logical choice.

People on here roasted the band for doing the tour. They whined it was selling out and greatest hits. They guessed it could only be a contract issue etc etc etc.

Maybe the band just felt that after performing the album in its entirety, they needed to distance themselves from it? Maybe they felt if they trotted out these songs again after what became a successful tour they would be criticized for being all “Hey! We did the Joshua Tree remember? Here is it again!”

I feel like they should include Streets but whatever. It is their choice after all.
  6. Actually, I wouldn’t mind if they would never play any JT songs ever. It was a really good wat to say goodbye to that album with the JT Tour 2018.

Nothing wrong with the lyric at all. Think about it in terms of someone being their genuine self for the first time.

That said, it would be great if they played Lemon in the Iris spot. The version from ZooTV Sydney was slowed down a bit. Edge could help with the falsetto and they could rework it a bit!
  8. Lemon would be awesome, but I couldn't bear the thought of hearing it performed a note down with low, spoken WOWY-type vocals LOLOL

Yeah, I haven't personally mentioned not playing TJT songs as I'm absolutely ok with it, after 30+ years, it's time they were rested for a bit anyway so if and when they do come back they feel a bit fresher. So for me that makes complete sense that they're not playing those songs this year - although I was half-thinking with songs being dropped they might just play a couple in St Louis because of the cancelled show last year.

But who knows we may have even heard TJT songs for the final time, unthinkable I know but entirely possible This could be the bands final outting for all we know. I hope not, but nothing ever lasts forever and all that and I have a sneaking suspicion that they could be looking at wrapping things up with this tour and album. Really hope they have at least one more in them though, maybe we'll get one more mega stadium tour in the next five years.

Three songs down and a short NYD to protect Bono's voice though... mmm maybe - and he was struggling with some vocals at times last night - so maybe he has overcooked it - part of me wonders if there was a bit too much partying going on after night #1.

Anyway, plenty of time left for some really great shows on this tour and a setlist that gels a little bit better, and plenty of surprises if they're feeling up for it, I mean who would have ever thunk 'Acrobat' would be played all these years later? I'm sure when they hit Europe 'Red Flag Day' and or 'Summer Of Love' may see the light of day too. They really must not keep letting the tech dictate what they can or cannot play in a show though, and I think there's too much of that going on since 2014.

Exactly and I have a feeling that may have been the intention. But who knows. I certainly won't be upset to hear them again, but honestly if they make way for 'more interesting' things like 'Acrobat' then that is fine with me! Just would be nice for a few more of those 'more interesting' things ;-)
  11. Yeah, St Louis could have had something special because of the cancelled show..then again, recent Dublin shows as I recall didn't have anything special in the setlists either.

Yep, typically they don't do that kind of thing anyway, so no major surprise I guess.
