That "grind you down" before the solo, and the rage just as Edge starts... So much emotion there. The band is going all in on this song, Bono is going all in on his character and performance. Such an amazing performance...

I can't understand the people saying this is their worst tour. In my opinion SoE is far better than most of their stuff since the 00's, and with this tour they are going all in on not being a nostalgia act, they believe in what they're doing by playing 12 or so songs of the last double album (almost half the show), they're putting on a show with a narrative, they brought back McPhisto ffs. So much good in this thour.
Whether you like their new music or not, you can't argue they are taking risks and still involving themselves in the music they make. If they wanted to cruise for the money and for live nation, they wouldn't be doing this.
Still can’t believe they’re playing this. Bono showing tremendous energy in that vid. Edge nailing it. Awesome. One of the few highlights for me personally on the tour.
  3. can’t believe we’re still talking about no streets
oh my, i love the song but man, let that and all of JT rest.

I hope people talk about it all tour because that means it still won’t be getting played. With the addition of RFD last night the Setlist is only getting better. I would have taken last nights set over the 1st night even with a song less and no wild horses.

    Amen.

  6. Taste is a very subjective thing.
I remember waiting for my very first (and only so far) show. I had read about all the mythical status of Streets before the show. I waited with great expectations for the song to arrive. It did, it passed so fast and I felt... not much.
I didn't get why people get so hyped about that song. It was a nice performance, but far from the greatest moment for me that day. The highlights were Exit, One Tree Hill and the kickass combo of Elevation and Vertigo, the latter was the song that hooked me up with the band.

So, I guess what I'm saying is that giving a single song such a great burden might not be for everyone. I think there's not a single song that should be played at every freaking show. All deserve their own time.

  7. you saw Streets live in wrong period. just check some Youtube videos from 1987 - 2001...

The best thing about Streets isn't actually the band or the stage: is looking around you and feel the energy of the audience, the smiles, the jumps, the arms high up, the hearts wide open. Sharing that with 15K or 65K friends is a very powerful feeling.

    This.

That being said, I totally agree that no song should ever become a staple or a fixed certainty in any bands' setlist. Not even Streets.

I agree with your general thought and I get what you want to say, but, as you mentioned: Streets was not the highlight of the JT 2017 tour. Exit was the highlight for the majority of the fans, yeah.
But I'm sure you've seen 1987 - 2001 performances of the Streets. You can understand why it's an epic live song. A song that makes all of the arena / stadium go wild. A song that brings all kinds of emotions to people when U2 play it live. Streets is "the magical moment" of the U2 show, it's that moment that so many fans are expecting to experience live in a U2 gig. It's when you feel fullfilled I guess, in a way. A bigger than life aura enters the arena/stadium during Streets.
    That being said:
    - Streets in last year's tour was just the Joshua Tree album opener and its place did not help the song to be the highlight & maybe it didn't produce the same feeling as it always does
-In ei2018 tour not having Streets seems okay so far, so that's bold & good for the band.

I'm well aware I'm becoming annoying and sound like a broken record about the lack of Streets...I guess I've got a big attachment to it as it's my favourite song of all time and has always been the best moment of each U2 show I've seen.

I get it, those who have seen the band many times might want a rest from it and (being honest here) it might not be as powerful as it has been in the past, but it's still a big omission IMO. I find the current setlist quite weak overall and it's taken a bit of the hype out of things. Sure, one song being omitted shouldn't be such a big deal, but it is for me. I just feel the current shows, whilst pretty damn brave (fair play to them) in song choices, are missing that uplifting 'this is what you come to a U2 show for' moment right now.

I'll be with a three casual fans in October who are all looking forward to seeing the song, I haven't got the heart to tell them the band aren't going to play it.
  11. Just tell them. Whats the worse that could happen?
  12. "yeah, Streets was not the highlight in the recent tours, but if you look videos from the 80's and 90's you'll get it".

That's one of the best arguments to remove Streets from the setlist.
