Tour: Experience and Innocence tour
Songs played: 28
Audio recordings: 4
Videos: 1
  1. I probably should, the sooner the better I guess. Not looking forward to the WOWY chat as well.

@ Bloodraven. It's still a kickass song though, I first saw it as a super casual and it knocked my songs off it. It was still my highlight years later for London 2015. I guess those seeing the band for the first time probably haven't seen countless 80s and 90s performances on YouTube. We might be a bit jaded by it, but I'd still say the song delivers that euphoric moment for many.
  2. I wanted to wait until San Jose 2nd night in case there was a bit of night 1 vs night 2 thing going on, like in i+e, but apparently it won't.

I totally loved yesterday's show. The best so far by a long margin to me.
Mainly because Red Flag Day was the piece of the puzzle that was missing (to me at least):
They were playing 8 songs from the new album and I wasn't excited about none of them. Not that I didn't like them, but none made me feel like Cedarwood or Wolves.

Yesterday it also helped that Bono actually sang All We Have Left, that alone improved the first 3 songs. Because even if I didn't realize how much it bothered me that he was just lip syncing it, it was a pebble on my shoe through Blackout (which is already contained in the screen) and Lights.
I still prefer the wowoooowowowoo singalong of Joey Ramone, but yesterday fixes a lot of the start of the show.

The highlights of the shows so far for me:
    *Acrobat
    *Red Flag Day
    *Wolves
    *Cedarwood
    *
    *
    *
    *Gloria
    *Blackout

    Low Point:
*One (I really don't care for that one...)

    Frustrating:
    *The Ocean
I love The Ocean, but it's not the ocean without the picture of Dorian Gray...

    Missing:
*Showman (c'mon, he's dressed for the song already, it'd fit perfectly in the Elevation, Vertigo, Desire combo, he has to play it!)
*Landlady (never have thought they'd play it, but those snippets are encouraging...)
*e-Stage (remember when people complained that the e-stage was not enough variation between one show and the other? those were the days...)
*Setting for Love is Bigger (I'm biased because I find One a bit too much boring, but still I don't think that's the song that should be played before Love is Bigger. Not sure what should be there, but is not One).
  3. answer for some mates...... my first time, my first u2 concert was when you weren't born maybe. Stadio Flaminio Rome JT TOUR 1987 with Big Audio Dynnamite and Pretenders openers, last one in Rome last summer but stadio Olimpico with Noel Gallagher and "streets" for me is fundamental, de gustibus in latin. Anyway here we are if you haven't got it.

Watching that opening....... I can’t help to feel that LOH is dreadful in that spot. Blackout-Red Flag would be so much better. Edge will already have the explorer on for BD! Haha

    Yeah, I agree with that.

I always loved the set up and transition into Streets... but once the full lights turned on in that orgasmic moment (you know what moment), the rest of the song wasn't that impressive to me.

I'd agree that there's not such a moment in the current show, but I don't think is for the lack of Streets. I think that there's a couple of songs in there that could play that part.
What I think they're missing is in the set-up+lead+transition into one of the other songs (in my mind that could work with Pride or even COBL or Beautiful Day). Again, it's not just about the song, but how you build up to that moment. That's what made Streets extra special. The anticipation, the feeling of "here it comes.... here it comes!!!"

I still think it was a bold and sound move to embark on a whole tour without The Joshua Tree. I'd believe that that decision was made years ago, that's why they decided to honor the album instead with a tour devoted to it.
  6. In watching the video from last night it appears he now sings during the intro (Love is all we have) - sings with the recording. He has a headset on which I don’t think was there before.

THIS. I literally just watched this video and turned it off as he started " I want to run"

  8. I loved yesterdays show. Musically I prefer ABOY over RFD though, didn't really like the version so much yesterday. A bit slow and still needs some tweaking. Great to witness its live debut though.

First show yesterday where I just wandered around. Was up on the main stage and went on to the e-stage during intermission, to the c-stage during Pride and then back to the main stage. It was AMAZING. I can recommend this to everyone doing US shows, as this wouldn't work in Europe. The floors here are so spacious.

Acrobat was amazing again, that solo is just me watching in awe.

I remember waiting for my very first (and only so far) show. I had read about all the mythical status of Streets before the show. I waited with great expectations for the song to arrive. It did, it passed so fast and I felt... not much.
I didn't get why people get so hyped about that song. It was a nice performance, but far from the greatest moment for me that day. The highlights were Exit, One Tree Hill and the kickass combo of Elevation and Vertigo, the latter was the song that hooked me up with the band.

So, I guess what I'm saying is that giving a single song such a great burden might not be for everyone. I think there's not a single song that should be played at every freaking show. All deserve their own time.

I loved Streets on but it didn't do too much for me on i+e. I preferred Pride
  10. double post
  11. Funny I preferred Streets on I&E to TJT17, but we got Zooropa before it which worked exceptionally well imo. Seeing that was probably my favourite Streets in person. Zoo tv would have been the one to beat if I’d witnessed that in person. I felt similar vibes though to zoo tv with Zooropa into Streets. Anyway I’m still happy for it to be dropped, it’s a great tune but there’s nothing new they can do with it anymore and I’d only want it to take the place of one of the regulars not anything new or more of a rarity.
