HTDAAB beginning with the Vertigo theme of finding "Jesus 'round her neck" in a dizzy and crazy world and ending with trust and submission in "Yahweh" by the end is one of the reasons this album first really got me into U2.

Bono cut me off: "I am. God is described as the great I am. So in that song Diamond is calling out to Jehovah. 'I am, I said' means, 'God, I said.' To who? To no one there! And no one heard at all, not even the chair! Do you see? It is a song of despair and lost faith by a man calling out to a God who isn't interested!"

I think you're right, I think it's the band coming full circle perhaps, and this is why I've been wondering if U2 are touring this knowing that this is their last time out and if not will probably have the mindset that it could be their last time out. Who knows, and a good part of me hopes not, but if it is, none of us could complain and what a really classy and arty way to wrap everything up, and one that people will probably discussing many years from now. Everything is like an onion with U2, you peel off one layer just to reveal another layer and I'm sure people will still be unpeeling those layers in decades time just as we do today about older U2 songs.

Also the lightbulb on the e-stage at the opposite end of the setlist... I think this is full circle too, and is possibly also alluding to what Bono has said about 'experience' recapturing 'innocence' - the whole lightbulb and Cedarwood Road house prop on the e-stage symbolising innocence.
