    ...interesting...

what's the opening line of the All Because of You album?

And since we're there, what's the closing song of it?
HTDAAB beginning with the Vertigo theme of finding "Jesus 'round her neck" in a dizzy and crazy world and ending with trust and submission in "Yahweh" by the end is one of the reasons this album first really got me into U2.

But your opening line connection to Ex. 3:14 just blew my mind. Well done, sir! Had never spotted or heard that before.

Just to make sure, in case some people think this is too conspiracy theory or whatever, that's a quote Bono is really familiar with, even since the 90's.

In Bill Flanagan's book "At The End Of The World", there's this exchange between Bono and the writer:

Bono looked down his nose at my sarcasm and asked, "Do you know what 'I Am, I Said' is all about?"

"Yeah, as a matter of fact I do. Diamond was in Hollywood making his acting debut as Lenny Bruce in the first attempt to film Bruce's story. Wonder why that one went wrong. He was having a terrible time, the picture was falling apart, and he sat down in the dressing room and wrote that song about feeling out of place in L.A. but no longer part of the Brooklyn he came from."

Bono clearly meant his question to be rhetorical; he was not expecting me to actually know the gestation of "I Am, I Said." But now we were into the sort of mutual nut-busting in which neither opponent can concede an inch, so he tried a different approach: "How does Yahweh identify himself in Genesis?"

I saw where this was leading. " 'I am who am,' " I quoted. "That's actually an interesting grammatical construction, you know, because—"

Bono cut me off: "I am. God is described as the great I am. So in that song Diamond is calling out to Jehovah. 'I am, I said' means, 'God, I said.' To who? To no one there! And no one heard at all, not even the chair! Do you see? It is a song of despair and lost faith by a man calling out to a God who isn't interested!"

So, Bono knows the quote, and knows that the "I am" can be and has been used in a song.

also, there's this from his own handwritting in All Because of You:

(and there's a timeline where you can see that ABOY, Vertigo and Yahweh were all written at the same time)...

So, it's like that Jon Snow's parents theory that sound like a totally tin foil hat theory, but once you see it, it's very clear...
  3. There's something i really love about the ending of the new shows, the band finish playing and just walk away... Finish like they started with I&E i guess?

Yes, I saw a lot of confusion on some faces. lol They were expecting a big thundering anthem to finish out the show... Expect the unexpected with U2.

I really like it too, it's classy.

I think you're right, I think it's the band coming full circle perhaps, and this is why I've been wondering if U2 are touring this knowing that this is their last time out and if not will probably have the mindset that it could be their last time out. Who knows, and a good part of me hopes not, but if it is, none of us could complain and what a really classy and arty way to wrap everything up, and one that people will probably discussing many years from now. Everything is like an onion with U2, you peel off one layer just to reveal another layer and I'm sure people will still be unpeeling those layers in decades time just as we do today about older U2 songs.

Also the lightbulb on the e-stage at the opposite end of the setlist... I think this is full circle too, and is possibly also alluding to what Bono has said about 'experience' recapturing 'innocence' - the whole lightbulb and Cedarwood Road house prop on the e-stage symbolising innocence.
  6. We have an album and tour ahead - Ascent. That will tie the whole lot together , then that's that.
Let's enjoy the ride while it lasts and cherish the moments .

it just finishes the Innocence & Experience story. It's not like U2's career started with a lightbulb Of course they're getting older and there certainly is no guarantee for a future tour, but looking at the setlist I don't think they see it as a farewell tour.
