Tour: Experience and Innocence tour
Songs played: 26
Audio recordings: 1
  1. Ha good to see the discussion follows the show.
  2. After actually seeing a show on this tour (last night) here are my only complaints. Lights Of Home needs to be the original from the album and not the strings version (and I like the strings version better on the album), it just needs to be more of the band playing and I think Edge’s guitar intro would start the song out better. Or just play the guitar like the original over the strings, seems like that would work. Cedarwood and Iris were kind of meh, I guess been there and seen that already feel. I said this before, this version of SBS does not work. Play it full band or don’t play it. Play the full band Best Thing also, the semi acoustic thing doesn’t work very well. I know they are making a statement with no Joshua Tree. But end the show with Streets. Would even fit the theme of it is wide open what is up next vibe.

The rest of the show I thoroughly enjoyed. Some of the warhorses like Pride actually sounded really good. Red Flag Day is just great live, they need to keep playing it. Acrobat kicks ass live (I’m not a fan of the song either), that was really surprising to me. Also, you can dislike it on the album but American Soul also kicks ass live. I thought all of the new material besides Best Thing really sounded good. Great crowd in Chicago and it was a really good performance last night. The band seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Your thoughts mirror my own (despite not having seen a show yet). Would you see value in multiple shows based on what you saw?

Obviously if you are looking for variation over multiple nights I would not recommend it. It really is a good show, different vibe from any other U2 tour I have seen (Since 1987 JT for me), but it is cool. They just need to tweak a few things and it would be outstanding. I could see it again, but probably just one more time would be sufficient.

It is U2, they are still one of the best live. I think we all need to keep THAT in perspective with a lot of the bitching I have seen about this tour (I guess whats new with us diehards ). If you have a chance to see them, just go. Who knows how many more opportunities we will have. I almost missed this tour and I would have really regreted it.

Fair enough. I have one in Berlin then a decent gap to Belfast. I think I'll switch off from here to then just so I don't get too hung up on the little things but as it stands I consider the show to 85% there and it really wouldn't take much to push that into the 90's.
  6. Just watched the intro to UTEOTW for the first time without RBW (not counting St Louis)... I'm not sure. Closest to the album version they have ever done but I like it ripping in.

I don’t think it’s the intro alone that’s causing the problem for me. It’s the dull version of SBS that precedes it then that goes into the bomb sounds and after all that you need the next song to kick in quickly. If it came after something like Gloria it would probably work I think.
