Sorry if there was already a forum for this I couldn’t find one. Alright so I thought it would be cool for everyone to leave a ranking of all 14 U2 albums on this forum. No rules just rank them and you can give a mini review if you’d like.
14. October
By far their worst work imo. An absolute mess of an album that was made in a matter of weeks.
Favorite tracks: October, gloria, fire, stranger in a strangeland
Least favorite tracks: is that all, I fall down, Rejoice, with a shout
13. Boy
Yeah so I think boy is massively overrated but I still love it. U2’s first 2 albums aren’t exactly my cup of tea but I still find enjoyable moments on boy. Unfortunately for every good moment there’s usually a bad one too go with it.
Favorite tracks: I will follow, out of control, the eletric co, the ocean, an cat dubh
Least favorite tracks: a day without me, stories for boys, another time another place
12. Rattle and hum
So I don’t really have issues with most of the songs individually on rattle and hum but so many of them sound the same it makes it hard to listen to if I’m not in the mood. That being said I still enjoy this album.
Favorite tracks: Helter skelter, desire, god pt 2, All I want is you
Least favorite tracks: Van Diemens land
11. Songs of innocence
First off the free apple release doesn’t bug me at all. 2nd I think musically this album is good but the writing, storyline, and atmosphere lets me down sometimes. I think innocence pales in comparison to its counterpart experience but more of that later. Still a solid U2 album that I would recommend.
Favorite tracks: iris, volcano, raised by wolves, sleep like a baby tonight
Least favorite tracks: the miracle and the troubles
10. No line on the horizon
I don’t understand the hate this album gets. I understand why people don’t like boots its a good song but horrible single. The rest of the album is a departure imo and some of the songs capture U2’s creativity.
Favorite tracks: No line on the horizon, moment of surrender, breathe, ceaders of lebanon
Least favorite tracks: stand up comedy and unknown caller
9. War
The album that really got U2 off the ground imo songs like Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Years Day remain classics. The album was much more in your face than boy and October and it was a nice way to cap off the early U2 years.
Favorite tracks: Sunday Bloody Sunday, Seconds, New years day, drowning man, 40
Least favorite tracks: red light
8. Zooropa
First time I heard it I hated it but its grown on me so much. A very weird sound much weirder than achtung baby or pop Zooropa can really grab your attention as an album. If it weren’t for 2 terrible songs this album might break top 5.
Favorite tracks: Zooropa, babyface, lemon, stay, daddys gonna pay for your crashed car, the first time
Least favorite tracks: Numb and somedays are better than others
7. All that you can’t leave behind
Perhaps its a little overrated but Its still a classic album. Obviously its most known for beautiful day which is a great song but it also overshadows better songs in my opinion. The first 7 songs of the album are brilliant but after that I’m not a fan of some of the later songs.
Favorite tracks: Walk on, stuck in a moment, elevation, kite
Least favorite tracks: Grace, when I look at the world, peace on earth
6. How to dismantle an atomic bomb
So yeah I’m in the minority of people who prefer atomic bomb over leave behind. I have great nostalgia for this album I was very little when my dad would play this album for me. Vertigo and city of blinding lights were my 2 favorite songs when I was a kid. But regardless of nostalgia I still think this album would be in this spot it’s absolutely fantastic.
Favorite tracks: Vertigo, miracle drug, sometimes you can’t make it on your own, love and peace or else, city of blinding lights, all because of you, crumbs from your table
Least favorite tracks: a man and a woman
5. The unforgettable fire
I think this is where U2 really found themselves lyrically. Boy, october, and war had some good lyrics but I think from unforgettable fire foward they became better songwriters.
Favorite tracks: a sort of homecoming, pride, wire, the unforgettable fire, bad, Indian summer sky, MLK
Least favorite tracks: elevis presley and America ??? (sorry if I offended anyone I really hate that song)
4. Songs of experience
I was honestly blown away U2 still had an album like this left in them. The writing on this album is honestly some of the best on a U2 album. The story line and atmosphere are both improved from innocence. Every song paints a picture on love is all we have left I see a beautiful starry sky with a very dreamy feel. For summer of love I see a wartorn beach. And for red flag day I see a crazy storm.
Favorite tracks: Love is all we have left, lights of home, get out of your own way, summer of love, ref flag day, the showman, the little things that give you away, landlady, the blackout, love is bigger than anything in its way, 13
Least favorite tracks:
3. Pop
The hate this album gets disgust me. Some people won’t even listen to it because its the U2 album the casual fans hate.but I think this album is almost perfect. The way bono describes it is “it starts at a party and ends at a funeral” and that may turn a lot of people off but it grabs my attention. If they could have finished this album it would be held as a classic just like achtung and Zooropa.
Favorite tracks: discotheque, mofo, if god will send his angels, staring at the sun, gone, miami, if you wear that velvet dress, please, wake up dead man
Least favorite tracks:
2. Achtung baby
A big change coming off of rattle and hum. I could only imagine what it was like for the fans who lived through this period to go from a song like when love comes to town to the fly. Achtung really saw the band get ambitious and go for it and it also helps that it had the zoo tv tour to back it up.
Favorite tracks: zoo station, even better than the real thing, one, until the end of the world, whos gonna ride your wild horses, so cruel, the fly, mysterious ways, ultraviolet, acrobat, love is blindness
Least favorite tracks: tryin to throw your arms around the world
1. The Joshua tree
Is there anything I can say that hasn’t already been said? First off this album has my 2 favorite u2 songs in streets and exit. And the rest of the album is incredible this album defines what U2 is bold, loud, joyful, sad, dark, and spiritual this all of it is on The Joshua Tree.
