YEAR 2020 40th Anniversery BOY Tour!
THE END!
Originally posted by RattleandHum1988:Probably isn't the right thread for it, and I'm sure many will disagree, but after seeing the show the other night and how similar it was to the Innocence tour show I had seen 4 times (lol), I hope they do an entire tour like that BBC production. A theatre tour that's a quieter show featuring a string section, choir, etc. I think that'd be damn fantastic. I'd like to see something like that before the band call it quits. A REALLY intimate show, even though U2's talent has always been making a stadium feel like a club.
Put aside the huge rockers and play songs from the catalogue that require a quieter and more restrained feel, or even like a more bombastic approach like they did with Love is Bigger. They could dig out so many songs and interpret them differently. Shadows and Tall Trees, Drowning Man, etc. So many tunes they've never played because they don't fit a "U2 show".

After all of this, I think they're going to want way longer than 3 years off. We had 4 between the end of 360 and the start of Innocence.
I would not be surprised to see a farewell tour be the next one up. It could be long and tasteful and they would have a chance to make their own last marks on their legacy.
This might sound crazy, but I think one of the Rolling Stones dying will catalyze a big change in these older acts touring. Tom Petty touring til he died was a wake-up call, and since the metric always seems to be "They can go forever! Just look at the Stones!," once that's gone, I think certain bigger bands will opt to retire like R.E.M. instead of tour themselves into the ground.
