Does the LiveNation contract mean U2 HAVE to perform an X amount of tours during the contracted years? Because that could determine how many more tours they will do

I went to see The Stones in Manchester for the first time on Tuesday night I was amazed at the set list variation the energy and how good they were.What a legacy they will leave. U2 I dont think will retire they will just not do anything for a few years..........Ive seen U2 56 times since 1980 on every tour Once they finish thats it so i i think they will do less and less over a period of time they are so far down the line they can be known as the longest serving band in history and no one would ever touch that in the music industry today They are so close I think they will want that..

With most artists I’d assume there was some sort of terms about tours or shows but with u2 I really don’t know. They will have made LiveNation a load of money with the tours they’ve already played whilst contracted with them and I can’t see u2 committing to number of shows/tours when they know that could compromise work they were/are doing on new material. I think they like to suit themselves and work at there own pace and they’ve put themselves in a position to do so.

Makes sense. With the highest grossing tour ever they likely call the shots at this point.

Personally don't see them retiring until one of them dies. But for the next 5 years, I don't think we'll get anything. We might get the odd one-off stuff, might get a handful of Bono solo/Bono-The Edge shows but even that's pushing it.

The band members personally have no need for any more money, it won't be their main motivation...but they're at the heart of a huge business organisation that earns a lot of money and keeps a lot of people in jobs. That's going to end some day, so for as long as they can, I imagine that the management closest to the band are indeed trying to maximise the commercial opportunities available.

One school of thought is that the only reason that they did the Joshua tree tour last year was due to LN contractual obligations. I will be very surprised if they don't do some kind of Achtung Baby tour in 2021.

Then tour 2 years global
Then retirement in 2023
Farewell Tour 2024- 2026

Then they get bored and reform in 2028
Album 2029 tour 2030

I could see U2 doing one new album without a tour and then put out a "greatest hits" album with 2 or 3 new songs and do a tour based on the best of. Not really a farewell tour but a farewell tour. I think the album could be 2022 and the tour in 2025.
