1. I think they should only use objective assistance. So goalline technology and offside. Serious violations could be dealt with afterwards if necessary.
  2. Iran v Portugal was one of the most distasteful displays of football I have ever witnessed. Just a shambles.

Personally, I love it. It was about damn time. While not perfect, it is already giving games with more PK, more goals and more justice.

100% for it, I still don’t always agree with decision but I can accept interpretation more than I can accept missing something altogether.
  4. My main gripe with it is that it already isn't being used for it's intended purpose. The ref saw and made a judgement on the penalty incident. Play then resumed then broke down while every twat and their dog made rectangles with their hands. Then the ref goes to the TV for a look. If it takes that long to assess then it isn't a clear and obvious decision so the original on field decision should have stood.

    It's killing the game.
  5. VAR started out well but has quickly become a bit of a farce. There have been some absolutely baffling decisions recently. Players being wrestled to the ground in the penalty area and getting nothing, while Iran got that decision tonight.

Indeed.Portugal in the end deserved.Iran was good but not good enough. They definitely should be happy for the way they played.
  7. Hope we get an exciting afternoon with the football. Could see this going back and forth today, Denmark will do well to hang on to 2nd place, they could be lucky if France don’t quite want it as much.

I agree. If you're unsure ask for it on the spot. Or continue play and let it go...
  9. VAR should only be used for Black and White decisions. Such as Offsides and mistaken identities.

They say it is used for Clear and Obvious decisions too. However none of the VAR given fouls yesterday were Clear and Obvious.

It is now currently being used for yellow/red card and penalties decisions which aren't black and white, but come down to human interpretation - which we all hold a different opinion on whether that was a foul or a handball etc. And that is where VAR doesn't help or isn't needed.

Agreed. It seems to me (and I say this because I am no football expert) but the referees need to decide early how they are going to dictate the game (meaning are you going to call everything or are you going to let them play and call the obvious, flagrant fouls or flops) It seems from watching a few of the games there is no flow... not sure if the refs were persuaded or intimidated by players.

I know in the NHL playoffs, refs tend to keep the game more open and freewheeling and let the boys play... I think at this level, it should be the same...
  11. Well that goal makes the afternoon a lot less interesting. On the plus side I predicted a Peru win on the football prediction thread, guessed them all before the tournament started or I would have went for Australia today.
  12. It's a miracle Australia hasn't scored yet...

...but the afternoon is still long...I guess...
