1. One Tree Hill, Bad (although there was an excellent live version i heard once, loved it)
    Desire (just an average song)
    Angel of Harlem (trumpets )
One (studio version anyways, its solid live)
Stuck in a Moment (as somebody on here said once i believe, its "overproduced")
Fast Cars (can't stand that song)

Agree with you on One Tree Hill, Bad, One and Stuck In A Moment.
From Angel of harlem and Desire I only dislike the studio versions.
I think Fast Cars is not overrated because it didn't even made it to the final 11 of HTDAAB. It's just a bonus track for the UK

Yeh, ok, that one is listenable. But apart from that the only time I listen to that song now is for the BRT when I have too.

Well, it's not a bad song (altought the title says so) but after a while it gets boring. There is no 'change' in the song.
A intermezzo or a twist at the end.
Btw I did guess you were shocked

    Ummm..

Well, same could be said of Lemon and (to change tack) Moonlight Sonata. But they're still great songs.

Any-hoo. Each to their own. I dare say many are shocked by my dislike of Beautiful Day....
  7. I always interpeted the lack of varietie in Bad to be symbolism of addiction.

Mercy is probably the most overrated U2 song as of yet. It's a rough-sounding track, but even still, it feels a little uninspired. It's too safe, too much in the vein of the Dismantle-era stuff, for it to really be as brilliant as everyone claims it to be. The appeal there is more that it was an unreleased track that was actually of some decent quality, not that it's particularly stellar.

i could not disagree more with you about Mercy. but to each his own!

I guess I'm one of the die hard fans that doesn't think any of their songs are overrated and that they are all brilliant. Like, I would love to see Bullet played on every tour, it's always one of the songs I look forward to seeing and hearing how they've changed it. idk whatever
  9. sorry, but i can't find any overrated songs.

    thank you
  11. I think this all depends on when you started listening to U2.......I started in 1992 and like the more modern sounding stuff like zooropa/pop/achtung baby and even HTDAAB.

So to answer the question i think that a lot of the joshua tree stuff is abit "country".....to me

    One tree hill
    Red hill mining town
    In Gods Country
    Trip through your wires

all sound like the same song...........dont get me wrong i like all of these songs but to me (not necessarily anyone else!) this lack of variety puts the album down the pecking order........to be honest there is only one U2 song i dislike............and that is SWEETEST THING.....it makes me cringe any time i hear it!

    Anyway..........each to your own!!

I still stand by my opinion that the best performance of BD is the Boston DVD version, and I always find it listenable - it's uplifting and for me, I love that in a song

Yeah, the way it crescendos to "I'm wide awake, I'm not sleeping" etc. always comes across to me as trying to represent the behaviour of an addict - aswell as being a favourite of mine (live performances, anyway - the studio version is nothing incredibly special in all honesty...), ever since I discovered that it's was inspired by Bono's experiences of drug addicts etc., the lyrics have literally born a new meaning for me - so powerful and emotive...
