1. Maybe it's just to overcompensate for rushing the Pop album, but they REALLY REALLY NAILED their single releases for that cycle.

    Please [US Version 2]
Okay, PopHeart has sexier, beautiful artwork and a cooler title, but the single version of Please is INCREDIBLE!!! Adam's bass is actually playing in key and heavy in the mix. I just heard it for the first time and was blown away (I love when I discover U2 I haven't heard before, it's so rare)
I don't even need to comment on Please / Streets, WOWY, Staring At The Sun.
***This is Wide Awake In America quality*** and it belongs in the pantheon of EP releases

If God Will Send His Angels
    -Sunday Bloody Sunday: wowwy-wow-wow
-IGWSHA single mix = two thumbs up
-cool, rare covers you can't find anywhere else, (as opposed to remixes i'll never listen to again)

Last Night On Earth: Pop Muzik Popmart Mix alone is worth it. WHY wasn't this included in Complete U2?
  2. Yeah most of the songs on POP are excellent. I particuarly like Last Night On Earth, PopMuzik and MOFO. As well as every single song on that album.

For being one of the band's lowest points and selling albums, it has some damn fine songwriting there. And it even could belong in the top five.

Well, I wouldn't rate PopMuzik as a POP song...

    me too
  5. True it's only played as intro at PopMart

But euhm, Sunday Bloody Sunday is also not on my Pop-CD so i hope you mean the Video because i do love the POP-album but i can't find everything you've said on my album... Or maybe i understand you wrong...
  6. actually i'm not really referring to the pop album cuts at all (though i love the album).

what i meant was the set of single releases (EPs & such) that were released to promote the album. single releases no longer exist in the US rock genre outside of iTunes music store (we americans have to buy imports), but they were big back until the mid/late 90s. most artists would release the single plus some crappy filler b-side. but U2 had some sweet single EP packages that I just recently discovered and plan on investing in. here are 3 of the 6 that are now on my wish list:

Popheart / Please: (This is as good as Wide Awake In America)
    1. Please (single version)***
    2. Please (live from Rotterdam)***** - fades continuously into:
    3. Where the Streets Have No name (live from Rotterdam)*****
    4. With Or Without You (live from Edmonton)
    5. Staring At The Sun (live from Edmonton)

If God Will Send His Angels
    1. If God Will Send His Angels (single version)
    2. Slow Dancing
    3. Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad
    4. Sunday Bloody Sunday (live from Sarajevo)*** - same version as Don't Let Them Kill Us boot, Edge solo debut

    Last Night On Earth
    1. Last Night On Earth (Single Version)
    2. Pop Muzik (Pop Mart Mix)*** - Similar to the recording that was played over the speakers at Pop Mart, but with Bono's vocals
    3. Happiness Is a Warm Gun (Gun Mix)
  7. Hmm never heard of it
Do you know where i can get it somewhere ? Because it sounds sweet
  8. Hello I know what you mean the PopHeart Please Single is one of my favs.

You can go to http://rivers712.multiply.com and see if you find what your looking for.

    That's me by the way....
  9. Popmart Please as the intro to streets???

    **amazing**

first time I realized it was the SBS beat i was in my car absent mindedly drumming w/ larry on my steering wheel
and I realized I was drumming the SBS intro, i played the track over to see if that was right

    then again

    then again

and was like OH SHIT SON!!!!

    amazing.

    close the post now.

The album has really aged beautifully. It just gets better and better with age. When it came out I only really liked a few of the songs but these days Pop is in my top three with Achtung Baby and Zooropa.

  11. POP is very dark, as Bono has said. Live, it's also very LOUD.. the kind of thing you wake up to'. At least that's what's on his alarm radio: Rock. I like the Live Popmart shows for exactly that reason/use them likewise. I lost Mexico City (Propaganda Gift) when my car was totaled en route to Vertigo; ironically, just as Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me was climaxing; no lie.

(The Bible says death and life are in the power of the tongue. (Proverbs))

(-That's enough to make me believe.

Point is: it's dark, loud.. good music.

I think music connoisseurs should be more open minded; especially American U2 fans. For Christians who struggle w/the theology: it's "Ecclesiastes," as Bono told the young, evangelical welsh girl; though all can't be defended. It's art.

It wakes you up/keeps you "alive."

Vertigo Live is Rock though.. first time they may've ever played it. (throughout most of an album).
  12. P.S. `and the POP Singles are great.. worth the "investment." Support the cause.. U2's music!
