I've got to agree with that. As much as I love the song, I hope that it isn't played regularly on the next tour, for the exact reasons that you've listed here. If they keep it in rotation, I'd love to hear "Love Will Tear Us Apart" again too...I get chills everytime I hear that snippet.

Agreed, keep it on ice for next tour, so they can re-discover it, and when they do, throw in lots of snippets! Shine Like Stars/Never Tear Us Apart/Love Will Tears Us Apart......

What did you think of Instant Karma!? Should U2 do more covers?

Personally, I loved Instant Karma. I'd love to see them pull out covers every now and then (and more than just snippet form). Not to the point where they're doing "Stand By Me" every night, but every few nights, pull something out that they could really personalize....like "All These Things That I've Done" by the Killers.

Did you hate "Crumbs" as much as I did?

No. It's one of my least favourite HTDAAB tracks, but I didn't mind it purely for the variety value. Mind you if I was at the show, I probably would have something else. I'm guessing it replaced All Because of You in the setlist. I would have preferred the latter.

On covers, it's interesting that you suggest Killers. They always do old songs. They'll snippet new songs but won't do the whole box and dice. They have snippetted a couple of Killers tracks haven't they?

I'm not sure if they have done any Killers snippets. I'd be interested in hearing them if they have, that's for sure. You're right though, they don't really seem to do the current songs in their full form. Just spare us that awful rendition of "Fortunate Son..."

I actually love the "Crumbs" version on the album....IMO it's classic U2: ringing guitar, xylophone in the intro, 2 chords in the verses....but the falsetto is just too high for Bono to consistently shift between that and his regular voice, and it really took the power out of the song.

I just checked: They snippetted "All These Things That I've Done" with Beautiful Day in the two Las Vegas shows on Vertigo Tour - 4th and 5th of November 2005.

That's funny, I downloaded the Nov. 4 show a while back and haven't listened to it! I'll have to check it out now, thanks!
  8. Does it bother anyone if I post my review tomorrow?? Need to listen to the 2nd half of the show, will do so later today.

    1) I must have been listening to a different show to other BRT members, because I honestly thought the sound wasn't too bad. Everyone was audible enough. Granted I'm not an audiophile as you referred to.
    2) When oh when, will Bono feel like singing WOWY again??!!
    3) Could someone pls explain to me how this was a "lazy" performance? It was laid back and relaxed with a kinda party feel to it, but that's not lazy. The boys were just having fun and that came through in the performance. It one of the reasons why this will stay on my iPod for a little while.

    1) Personal preference. I'm turning into a bit of an audiophile and the audio was way too compressed. I just couldn't listen to it. I've downloaded the lossless and converted it again myself and i'll try listening to the show again. 3.5-4 in it's current trim.

    2) Never it would seem

    3) I just didn't like the overall ambient of the show. It felt flat, Bono's playing to the crowd seemed a little to false and structured. Bono sounded tired, there was too much empty space in between songs, another One speech, more Africa Africa Africa during Streets, i'm all vurned out on Vertigo. . .

    a) I agree, I thought the sound was good - in some cases I prefer it to a lot of remastered stuff...I prefer to have things blended in rather than having each different part really clanging me in the lugs
    b) I quite liked WOWY, but yeah Bono's voice isn't what it once was...but I still think he's all for singing it, just has to make a few adjustments vocally...
    c) Like you, I thought this was great as a performance, wouldn't say it was lazy at all - relaxed for sure, I mean, just take Instant Karma. Great performance, everyone sounded like they enjoyed playing it and the crowd soaked it up

Yeah, were it not for Bono not nailing the vocals, I'd have given it 7-8/10 as a performance, but as it was I'd either say 5-6/10 - great musical performance, but bollocks with regards to the vocals...well, bit harsh but he didn't crack it, did our Bono...

Have you checked Beautiful Day, Las Vegas yet?
