    After 4 hours of intense plinking, I can confirm it's excellent! Adds another dimension entirely. Will try cobble some sounds together at some point
  4. Was having a faff last night with current rig and was pleasantly surprised at the Streets sound I came up with:



    Couldn't tell you the exact settings but the basic rig is:

    Squier Bullet Strat (in phase between middle and bridge, mais oui) > Boss SD-1 (set at 9 o'clock, I think) > Boss DS-1 (switched off but you never know if the bypass is completely true!) > TC Electronic Fluorescence Shimmer Reverb (I have NO idea what that was set to but it sounded schwing) > Boss ME-20 (with some kind of delay setting I've concocted to mimic whatever the hell Edge has it at + a dash of compression) > Marshall MG-30 amp digi-combo (with god knows what setting on the dials).

    In short, I'm pretty pleased with it. I can't get enough of the shimmer at the mo - it properly helps fill out the sound when you don't have Edge's rig (or indeed his fingers).

    If only I had the backing track on at the same time - such as it is, I was playing the drums with my teeth and the bassline in my head.

  6. Would absolutely love that, as a new guitar player it’s sometimes hard to find good covers of U2 songs, would love to see it!!

    I feel you bro: shimmer is a-d-d-i-c-t-i-n-g! I'm starting to add it to mostly all songs I play because it just fills up the sound when you're playing on your own. It's just a killer effect!
  8. Hi there. Is there any type of multi effects pedal that would create a kind of edge U2 sound or is it all different types. I've been playing guitar for years but the last few years just stopped so trying to get back into it a bit. Any advice would be appreciated
  9. Well there is not one pedal for most of the U2 sounds, I would say that a delay, reverb and some distortian pedal can do some basics. I use a multi effects unit, it's a low budget boss gt-8 with an additional behringer rv600 for the shimmer sound. It needs some dialing in but you can get a lot of U2 sounds out of it. Check out Roberto Marra on youtube, he has some very good U2 sounds, he also uses a boss gt-8. There are ofcourse much more expensive units like the axe-fx that can do the job better, but if you are on a budget it works very well.

    As you've been told on the post above, the Boss GT8 / GT10 / GT100 family do a pretty good job

    If you want an alternative... Many many U2-players out there have a Line6 M5 / M9 / M13 though (or used to have, before jumping to the Fractal Axe FX units), and that makes finding patches and sounds out there much easier. I'd go that route to be honest!

I have really good fun trying to recreate as many sounds as I can with pedals, we do have a multi effects unit that my dad got at uni in the early 90s, so I can use them both to get really crisp JT+later digital delay and the pre-JT analogue delay with a memory boy, and it's great fun to use the actual pedals )
