Agree that after ZOO TV and the original 1987 Joshua Tree Tour, Elevation completes the top 3.
Perhaps in social relevance it was even their best tour ever...

    But is it truly underrated?
Maybe not underrated but rather not talked about enough? I have on here and other places of people talking negatively of the tour but I find it to be maybe one of there shining moments!

I think there is also the thing whether one favors indoor, or outdoor shows...

But, yeah, Elevation Europe was strongly emotional charged because of Bob Hewson's passing. And then came 911 and a lot of people felt that U2 was there at the right time to give some sort of comfort and strenght. I don't think that 3rd leg had any weak shows.
  3. Love the Elevation tour.

Speaking of tours, I don't think the 360 tour has held up well in terms of U2 lore. It was quite a spectacle at the time but no one ever talks about it anymore.

The AB20 tour is one of U2's best. The other two are mid tier, somewhere above Vertigo and below e+i.

    Whoops. Didn't see this!

    One of the best.

Well, it still ranks as the all time number 1 in highest-grossing concert tours...

  7. Yeh, but for love or money?

ZOO TV, JT (original), LOVE TOWN, heck even POP (one of my personal faves) and Elevation etc definitely for love.

The band played really well on the 360 tour - some amazing shows - but the tour as a spectacle had no soul.

"Highest-grossing" is indeed referring to money. And it was a reply to the idea that "no one ever talks about it anymore." That's the context; nothing more, nothing less.

But just because something is successful financially, doesn't mean that there wasn't any love or passion for it. However, the main reason for the financial success of the 360 tour was mainly because it ran for 2 years. Whereas LoveTown only lasted not even 4 months (September 22nd, till January 10th).

I thought the band wanted to actually make money with PopMart, after Zoo TV.

    It hasn't aged well

We must be living on different planets then. Mostly every U2-live discussion I read or participate in end up involving 360 Tour and I think there is a general agreement that it sits between 2nd and 5th best tour ever for mostly all U2 fans I know. There is also a certain consensus in acknowledging that its biggest fault was the progressive disappearance of NLOTH songs and the general lack of confidence in that album that the tour was supposedly promoting. But regardless money (although being the biggest grossing tour in the history of music is a pretty fucking big deal IMO) there is a general feeling that no other tour as of late has come close to where 360 did in terms of staging, band performances, audience response, setlist variation throughout the tour (the tour with more variation in the history of U2? Probably), etc.
