  1. Bono's theme for the past 2 albums.

    I mean in comparison to the other albums, Zooropa, Achtung Joshua, which i believe are bigger, and so much better.
  2. Of course their older albums are better. But you can't say that this was a bad choice. If they did it otherwise, it could be a lot worse. But also al little bit better. Though these albums aren't rally bad, but they're nothing compared to their older albums.
  3. I think these albums (ATYCLB and HTDAAB) are more serious and safer because the band IS getting more serious... The time of the crazy 30 year old men is over now so i think there's less show but definately not less good music... It's just once again a different kind of music they play...
  4. For me, all U2 albums are equal by quality...so yes, it worked

    Last two albums are more grounded you know, and less abstract.

  6. I think they've just been going with the flow. Their early post-punk vibrancy was the product of having grown up with Joy Division and the Ramones, Joshua Tree/R&H was sort of a counter-reaction to GNR-type bands that were dominating, their 90s music was more in synch with what was going on in Europe with digital processing and the age of media. To me the last two albums could be like Coldplay, Radiohead or Oasis. Obviously there's a distinct U2 effect on it, but the general concept isn't too dissimilar.

    I personally think ATYCLB stands as their finest album, with Elevation being their best tour (yes! even better than Zoo TV). I think a band like them, whilst in their 40s, finally able to marry modern technology with genuine stadium anthems is thoroughly remarkable. There hasn't been a better opening 3 tracks on an album since The Joshua Tree. We all understand what made Zoo TV so amazing, but by the final Zoomerang leg, as evidenced in the Sydney video, Bono was getting a little carried away with Macphisto and the band musta been really tired. Elevation did exactly as the name implied- a soaring emotional trip full of passion, release, joy, bitterness, revenge and subtle political overtones. In Zoo TV, their 80s anthems seemed a bit out of place against the backdrop of 30-something video screens and mock transmission towers. On Elevation the songs from the 80s, 90s and today all fit together perfectly. I also thought the heart was more effective than the b-stage. I see Vertigo as a more playful continuation of the Elevation concept. Vertigo was terriffic, but Elevation will always be better.

    Getting back to the original question...yes, they are as good today as they've ever been.

    Agreed I dont think Atomic Bomb lives up to the hype (The New York Times, among other bullshit they print on a daily basis, claimed it was their best album ever). It wasn't bad, but is it nearly as good as even POP or Zooropa? Don't think so. But I understand why the band is so enamored of it, and I see how they have sort of come "full circle." From a reflective standpoint it's just as important as Achtung Baby or ATYCLB.
  8. Well, I like the concept of 4-men-in-1-room, but I miss some of the "Apocaliptical effects" of Zooropa or even POP...
    For example, One Step Closer is the perfect representat of the 4-men... concept, but I hate it!
    On the other hand, Mofo or Zooropa are the example of the Apocaliptical sound... I really don't know what I would choose... I think I choose Vertigo
  9. all their albums are amazing but i too think that their past albums are a lot better than HTDAAB. i really hope for a phenomenal new release!

  11. well, i think they are just getting too old to go and make another big zoo tv era effort again. christ guys they will be 50 soon and we should just be happy with what they give us. id love to see another zoo tv era but four men in a room is fine as far as im concerned. and i really liked htdaab.
