This be the list. (A lot of blood, sweat and tears were lost in the copying of this list from magazine to computer via. keyboard, so make sure you give it your due! lol)
(another thing - I opened a new topic because this seemed a) worthy of it and b) a bit too big for General Chat lol)
-------------------------
50 - Rory Gallagher
49 - Muse (the adorning comment being "Live, they're out of this world" - if that's the case, surely a top ten place at least lol?!)
48 - Heart
47 - Grateful Dead
46 - Dio
45 - Sensational Alex Harvey Band
44 - Genesis
43 - Alice Cooper
42 - Deep Purple
41 - Jeff Beck Group
40 - Metallica
(at this point, there's a little article about rock'n'roll show gimmicks/props, AND THERE'S NOT EVEN A MENTION of ZooTV or Pop. Not one jot.)
39 - Motley Crue (can't be arsed with the umlauts I'm afraid)
38 - Marillion
37 - Fleetwood Mac
36 - Rush ("The biggest-sounding three-piece on the planet")
35 - Rainbow
34 - Nirvana
33 - Status Quo
32 - R.E.M
31 - Paul McCartney
30 - Fugazi
29 - David Bowie
28 - The Ramones
27 - Soundgarden
26 - U2;
"Ireland's biggest export since Guinness"
The following is the mini bit of blurb that goes with it. Shockingly short, does little justice at all;
'Although Bono all but fell off the stage at LiveAid, the band's performance elevated them to unthinkable heights. Whether playing The Fly, Mephisto or ordering pizza by phone on the sage, U2 have redefined stadium rock.'
(there's also a little fact saying that Bono's first solo performance in 1989 was him singing Keats' poems in song form)
Ok, on second reading it does some small amount of justice but I mean, it's still not enough compared to the A4 spread about fucking Nirvana...

25 - Motorhead
24 - Rammstein
23 - Slayer
22 - The Police
21 - Yes
20 - UFO
19 - Thin Lizzy
18 - The Clash
17 - Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band
16 - Cream
15 - Rage Against The Machine
14 - Radiohead
13 - Guns N' Roses (complete with a double page spread of blurb...shambolic)
12 - Van Halen
11 - Aerosmith
(there's then a 4 page article on must-have bootlegs - the only U2 bootleg mentioned at #33 is 'Live In NYC 1981' -
"Recorded at the Malibu Beach nght Club in New York and released by the Unauthorized Joker label over a decade later, this set wa a rum affair. On the one hand, the upliftinting vibes of Gloria and I Will Follow cannot be denied; on the other, the raw sound makes you long for the polished atmospherics of, say, The Unforgettable Fire. But that's the attraction of bootlegs - they show you your heroes, warts and all."
Fair comment for me, although why there isn't any more is ridiculous...)
10 - The Beatles
9 - Kiss
8 - The Rolling Stones
7 - Iron Maiden
6 - Queen
5 - Pink Floyd ("the ultimate visual extravaganza - show before showmanship")
4 - Jimi Hendrix
3 - AC/DC
2 - The Who
1 - Led Zeppelin
NB - I'm assuming these are strange typos and thus used a bit of logic to sort the list out as I am guessing it was intended, but Genesis and Jeff Beck Group were both listed as #44, despite there being 2 bands in the list separating them; David Bowie and the Ramones are #29; Slayer and The Police are both #22. Like I say, I assume they're typos, but if not, that whoever arranged the presentation in the mag. needs either their head checking, summary execution or both.
Now you've all read it, what makest everybody of this list?
