  1. I think that view about JT17 being a money grab is probably not as common as some would think. Most fans are just happy when the band are playing near them and just want to enjoy the music. I feel like the most critical comments and judgement I read about the tour were on here tbh. I’ll never be able to agree with it or understand it. Because bono made a comment years ago about not becoming a nostalgia act or whatever they shouldn’t do an anniversary tour or a greatest hits tour? Nonsense. It’s great when u2 release new material and there is an extra layer of excitement about seeing them play a brand new tour but that shouldn’t stop fans from enjoying a tour that celebrates the past as well.


  2. That was the closest they have come to that but I think they pulled it off without it being a full on nostalgia fest. As they said, it was a birthday party, but the inclusion of Little Things, Best Thing, and the impending of SoE kept it forward looking for me anyway.

    It's been covered that they aren't likely to make their fortunes off taking this tour to Australia and Asia. The travel distances will kill them in Asia, and the depressed dollar will kill them in Australia. If they wanted to do a money grab they'd do another round of The Joshua Tree in the USA. Or an Achtung Baby tour somewhere. While they likely won't lose money going to Australia, I don't think they'll make their fortunes there either.

    They've been trying to get to Australia for a while from all suggestions and it hasn't worked out. They were supposed to go at the end of 2017, and then were looking at doing it in 2018 and just didn't get there for whatever reason. So they pushed it out. By many indications it will be a continuation of The Joshua Tree in some way, even if not named that.

    And Australia was won over by two huge tours in the 80s. Under Australian Skies brought the band there to critical acclaim. LoveTown is almost mythical down in those parts. It's the 35th anniversary of one and the 30th anniversary of the other. Under Australian Skies was done because the band couldn't get there on the War tour and felt they had to postpone the commitments they had made. (Although often labeled as the first leg of The Unforgettable Fire tour, the tour used War merchandise, and they played few songs off the new album.) Love Town happened because the band couldn't get there on the Joshua Tree tour, and felt like they wanted to get down there. They've certainly set their own precedent for making it up to Australia when they haven't been able to get there earlier.
  5. I have it from a member close to the band that it will be called “The Joshua Tree” and the final date is Macau on Saturday the 14th of December. The tour will not be extended beyond this.

    Another Greatest Hits? NO. The Best Of 1980-90, 90-00 and U218 in quick succession were very close to exploitative and unneccessary - another hits would be pointless, and they'd start becoming as bad as The Stones for sticking out endless Hits comps.

    Especially when they have the TJT17 tour film yet to come out! Release that, and play the a TJT32.5 tour to mark the launch of the tour DVD / BR.

  9. No way... 2000 songs were on 1991-2000, 2004 songs were on U218 so we would have a best of with Boots, Crazy and Magnificent!!!
  10. I guess they should reissue the two best of compilations with the tracks that are also on U218 removed too? No sense in keeping them on there anymore by that logic

    the biggest show in macau would be Cotai arena which has only capacity up to 15000 people... so either joshua tree tour thing or macau is false ....
