Guess I've got my second chance now.
  2. Some have pointed out, I'm glad they're touring again, and happy that Aussie and New Zealand fans finally get to see them again after a long time, but I just feel that this is all for money.

Why are U2Songs bad for the community? They do a great job. Something we should be grateful for.

    What bullshit were they spreading?

they are not spreading bullshit, I just don't like the way they reveal stuff with anonymous sources and spoil some of the fun and surprise. It just my opinion, I'm sure others like it but I just like to gather my own information and don't need to get it prestented this way. Maybe it's a bit of the same as with setlist spoilers, sometimes you just want to find out yourself.
Anyway, some U2 starters should stop ridiculising other opinions or preferences.. maybe I just have the wrong sense of humor, with those silly gifs and smileys.. not my cup of tea.

  5. really? just only a joke?? I'm sure at least 10 persons (the quoted ones) were not smiling.
  6. That's fine. You may indeed have a different sense of humour. And that is fine too. U2start is for everyone and its good that the news is out there now so we can skip all the talk about rumours and talk about real stuff.
  7. If Singapore is a Saturday night I will do that , hopefully the Sunday (or Friday) too.

I don’t really understand comments like this about it being all for money. Couldn’t we make that argument about every tour then? What makes this tour all for money but E&I not? Because it’s not a new album they’re touring? I don’t see how that would change the band’s motives. Personally I feel the band only write music and play shows because they enjoy it. Any money they make anymore is pretty insignificant because of the comfortable position they are already in. I guess it’s quite important for the tours to be profitable to keep them in a strong position as a business, but in terms of personal gain a few extra million in the bank is bound to mean very little at this stage to the band members. I think they’ll be delighted to get back to places they’ve not been to for a while if at all and get the chance to enjoy that connection with there fans again.

    +1
  10. +2 on a personal level for the band, but as you've all mentioned, money does certainly play it's part in decisions.

Staying away from Australia was all about money. Live Nation makes more money is the US (as they're a near monopoly, & own venues). Hence the multiple legs to the US, tour after tour, before Australia, Asia & South America gets a go.

Look at the Aussie shows, tickets to only two of the cities will be sold by Ticketmaster. Ticketek will sell the tickets for Brisbane, Adelaide & Sydney. Ticketek will take it's share of the profits, eating into the pie, limiting Live Nations profits.

Yes the tour will be profitable for the music industry, but Live Nation's share of the profit will be smaller than for tours elsewhere, particularly in the US.

There's no doubt that a stadium tour will be more profitable than an arena tour in Australia. Arena tours must make a profit there though, as quite a few big artists do arena shows in Oz. But as they are likely to be less profitable, & Live Nation's share of those profits is also less, you can see why Live Nation would prefer U2 constantly tired the US.

There's also the time involved. This tour can be wrapped up in a month. If this was an arena tour it would take multiple months to reach so many fans. Sydney normally gets 2-3 shows in very large stadiums. If it was arenas they could do a residency of 8 shows! As it stands, if the rumour of two shows at the SCG is true, this will nowhere near meet demand!

I would have loved to see arena shows in Oz (though my wallet would have hated me). I'm excited to see a stadium show though, as it's been a long time between drinks for me. I do wish they'd made it a bit newer though, with a new tour name & a redesigned b-stage/ catwalk (& setlist obviously).
  11. Don't forget U2 is effectively a medium sized business with over 200 full time employees. They need to keep revenue flowing to balance the books. It's not all about the band members personal wealth. I also think they are making the most of touring now etc while they still can.
