Yeah, but for the record: I am in favour of discussing well informed rumours. That is, not discussing every fart that goes on the internet.
These tour rumours certainly were/are informed (but it still stands whether they turn actually true) and worth of discussing.

But that includes tolerance for opinions that say that we shouldn't discuss them. Whether or not we act on such objections is an entirely different matter. In this case we didn't and I'm glad for it.

One last thing: It certainly proves value to make hotel reservations in advance. Especially when you are free to cancel those reservations if the plans may alter.
I think it’s always good to have tolerance for opinions but it’s a bit weird in the case of coming onto a rumours thread to complain about the discussion of rumours. It would be like going into a bar and complaining about the consumption of alcohol or going to a club and complaining about them playing music. Still doesn’t particularly bother me just feel that it would have been easy to avoid and then there would be no need to complain about people discussing. Yeah refundable hotel reservations would be one of the big reasons to want to know what’s going on, just planning ahead in general, time off work etc.
  2. For tomorrow we should turn this thread into one big announcement party.
  3. I'll bring the party hats.
  4. Can you imagine how it feels to be a u2 fan from one of these countries right now. I know we’ve already heard from a few people but for the band to have been away for so long from these places they must just be craving these live shows so much. I really am delighted that the band are doing this, the final tick in the box before they move on to the next chapter.

Perhaps "BS" was a bit strongly put, but nevertheless as your opinion it was valid to have.

Thanks. Maybe BS indeed was a bit too much, but I thought using an abbreviation would sound a little less harsh (just like 'gvd' for example, but maybe that only works in Dutch ). Anyway, I think it's unnecessary anyway to point out again you (Remy in this case) were right and some others were wrong. This is a forum and when your argumentation mainly is 'trust me, I know already, but I can't tell my sources', you can't blame others for being sceptical.. maybe some were a bit too convinced it was not true, but now we all know and there's no need to go back to that.

It was the use of the term BS that has caused the confusion as this is frequently used to imply that something is not true however I understood that not to be the case with Rick’s comment as he then went on to say ‘right or wrong’ which showed that he wasn’t dismissing the rumours as false. It’s a losing battle though regarding the sharing of information, more people would rather know than not and there’s always the option to not visit fan sites or certain pages of fan sites at least that share this information, it’s not difficult to do if you’re keen to avoid information.

well, it's more of a general annoyance, with all those 'scoops' these days and people with connections etc.. I know others like to hear this kind of information and in this case for some it might even have been useful to have this information (probably all Europeans and Americans who already saw U2 a lot in the past years). But apart from that I think it's pretty useless and it wouldn't be very different if we had to wait a little longer. That's why I hope U2songs stops with this information (or even better, it's source stops leaking) and U2songs just sticks to being a great database (which I really enjoyed in the past). But it's only me hoping, nothing more.

    What is a "real rumour"?

as for the surprise...do you really think if it wasn't posted at u2songs it wouldn't have found its way out there somewhere else?

probably, but maybe a bit more gradually and less convincing.. well, I don't think I have to explain too much.. it's just like presents in general.. of course you want to know something and get excited, but the element of surprise should still be there.

I understand where you’re coming from but i guess the comparison with the surprise of a present would be, if there’s Xmas gifts sitting under the tree you could open them whenever you want if you want to know what’s inside straight away but if you want to keep it a surprise you wait til Xmas day. If you want to know rumours you visit the rumours thread and if you don’t then you stay away from the threads. That’s not me telling people to stay away that’s just the logic that would work if people didn’t want to know about rumours. I personally never seen one piece of information regarding the tour that I didn’t go looking for so it can be avoided if you want.

Thanks for the reply. It helps to understand.

In this case there wasn't one source for the rumours. They started with crew. They were later confirmed by a team working on logistics. They've come from Live Nation, and the record label. They've come from Metallica's people, Elton John's people and Kiss's people (that may become clear later.) They've come from people booking venues, travel, etc. So its not just a case of hoping for one leak to get plugged - there's a lot of information out there. And we've tried to hold off on publishing anything until we heard the same thing from multiple sources, so we didn't mislead anyone. (It was rough when the announcement was pushed back from April 5, as we couldn't really say too much about it, because some didn't believe a tour was happening in the first place...)

Maybe we can do a better job in the future marking rumours or presenting them in a way that might be a little easier to avoid. The problem has been that when we do things like that, others just take the "juicy" bits and repost them, often without any information on where they come from...and that gets frustrating too. We'll certainly take a look at it again. We've always tried to be super careful about spoilers when it comes to set lists and the like, maybe we can adopt some of those measures on the rumours side if it helps out.

On that front, we've always been doing rumours, for 20+ years now. Back on U2Wanderer we were often the first to announce releases for singles, including showing off the covers and the like. We've always been sharing some advance information. So we aren't just a database, and haven't been for years. Most of our tour stuff was posted elsewhere however as I was working on a dedicated tour site back through most of that time.
