On that front, we've always been doing rumours, for 20+ years now. Back on U2Wanderer we were often the first to announce releases for singles, including showing off the covers and the like. We've always been sharing some advance information. So we aren't just a database, and haven't been for years. Most of our tour stuff was posted elsewhere however as I was working on a dedicated tour site back through most of that time.
Maybe we can hear some EI, Joshua Tree film release update from U2songs. finger crossed
  2. Here's a wild suggestion, how about just staying away from rumour threads if there an annoyance.

I know if I don't want to see any rumours, I wouldn't be visiting these particular threads.

  3. That is a terrible choice and makes absolutely no sense to this local. I wouldn't waste my money if you're coming from overseas; choose Brisbane or Melbourne instead.

Isn't SCG better located in terms of closer to tourist sights and everything?
  5. U2SONGS is an awesome resource and anyone who has been around a while will know that rumours are just that.

To sit in a seat, yes, I agree the SCG isn't a good choice. Seats will be a long way from the stage. Brisbane is the only (smaller) rectangular field being used in Oz, so should have the best views from the seats.

But the SCG is a far, far more convenient choice for tourists visiting Sydney, wanting to see the sights, & a U2 show or two. Not far the CBD, a couple of kilometres from the harbour, five km's to the city beaches.

Certainly not the case for the ANZ stadium, which had very little to offer tourists.

I'll concede that the SCG is a bit of a bugger for locals trying to get home after the event, with the lack of a train station near by. It's either fight to get on the many, many buses, or walk to Central station. I've always enjoyed the walk from Central before & after the cricket.

You can stay within walking distance of the SCG, & be within walking distance of the harbour or CBD. Or be only a few minutes drive/bus/bike from the beach. I'll be staying near by, walking to the pub after the show, then off to bed before long, to do it all again the next night.

Yes, it's a total head scratcher if the SCG is to be used. I wouldn't have expected it. But I for one am looking forward to seeing U2 perform there (from GA mind you).
  7. The SCG is better located than ANZ stadium (the other Sydney choice). But both the Brisbane & Melbourne venues are also very centrally located.

Thanks for the reply. It helps to understand.

In this case there wasn't one source for the rumours. They started with crew. They were later confirmed by a team working on logistics. They've come from Live Nation, and the record label. They've come from Metallica's people, Elton John's people and Kiss's people (that may become clear later.) They've come from people booking venues, travel, etc. So its not just a case of hoping for one leak to get plugged - there's a lot of information out there. And we've tried to hold off on publishing anything until we heard the same thing from multiple sources, so we didn't mislead anyone. (It was rough when the announcement was pushed back from April 5, as we couldn't really say too much about it, because some didn't believe a tour was happening in the first place...)

Maybe we can do a better job in the future marking rumours or presenting them in a way that might be a little easier to avoid. The problem has been that when we do things like that, others just take the "juicy" bits and repost them, often without any information on where they come from...and that gets frustrating too. We'll certainly take a look at it again. We've always tried to be super careful about spoilers when it comes to set lists and the like, maybe we can adopt some of those measures on the rumours side if it helps out.

well, it's not necessarily good or bad, you certainly did a good job and got it right.. but some people just like puzzling themselves a bit, they don't need car navigation or book all-in holidays or whatever.. when I take a look in the rumours thread I'm just looking for small bit's and pieces, not for a puzzle that's already solved. But it's no big deal, in this case it's just a small annoyance, and maybe you can take my comments as a compliment as well

  9. Baseball stadiums certainly make for weird concert venues

Most of the seats are behind the batter's plate, looking out to the field. So you end up with the stage being set up in the outfield, looking back towards the diamond. I saw a couple of 360 shows at Angels Stadium, Anaheim, & this was the case.

There's very, very few seats near the foul poles (adjacent to where the sides of the stage will be). So what would be very expensive seats, close to the stage (down the sidelines of a normal field), don't exist. And as Remy says, the field is very wide at that point. So there won't be many seats that are close to the main stage. But most seats will be quite front on. Edges side should have some seats that are quite front on, but not too far from the b-stage.

Then there's the fair portion of seats, beyond the outfield, in home run territory, that are behind the stage, so won't be used either.

    It's what one would call a meta-discussion...
  11. The GA area will be probably be split up in Saitama and Seoul.
