Yeah, I'd looked up this stuff last night, & was planning on writing it.

I'd mistakenly thought that the 360 box score of 115,000 for Sydney was for the first show, & thought the total for the 2 shows was around 200,000. Which would be similar to the 200,000 tickets they sold over the 3 shows on the Vertigo tour. But the 115,000 for 360 was indeed over the 2 shows.

So the total attendance for 360 in Sydney was only just over half what it was for Vertigo! Even with that spectacular CLAW. A bit of a shock to me, I didn't know their numbers had fallen so much. They've certainly lost quite a bit of relevance here!

So I guess they feel that 2 shows at the SCG, with a maximum capacity of nearing 100,000 must be just about right.

Anyway, I'm happy to go to a concert there, instead of the usual tramp out to Homebush.

I mentioned this 'relevance' issue and the ground they have lost in this part of the world two months ago on this very forum! And for my efforts was howled down for it!

well, it was never really a discussion of good arguments against good arguments, but 'this is going to happen, believe it or not'. Can you maybe repost that comment?
  5. NZ reaches Monday in about 2 hours, so here's hoping any embargo ends at midnight and we hear before we Aussies go to bed.

If you had maybe said the band were less popular now than they were the last time they visited Australia that probably would have sounded like a reasonable argument but I think you exaggerated talking about them playing to half empty stadiums and not being able to fill an arena over there. 100,000 over 2 nights in Sydney is good going for anyone so it’s not as desperate as you’ve made it sound. I know they haven’t sold these tickets yet but I think they will, perhaps the difference is they would struggle to reach the 200,000 figure they did on the vertigo tour over 3 shows.

360 was the highest attended tour in history at this point they are not interested in satisfying the demand, the JT tour they could have played double the amount of gigs they did particularly in Europe same with the I&E and E&I tours but for a band going over 40 years and still selling out stadiums is a massive achievement only AC/DC and Bruce can still do that worldwide. The relevance issue happens to every band are The Cure,Depeche Mode,Def Leppard, Aerosmith,The Eagles still relevant??No ,are they still selling bucket loads of albums and concert tickets?Yes

Just makes no sense from a capacity perspective and also from the perspective of local community and fragility of venue over cricket season. I don’t really know how easy it is to pull out or drop in a cricket pitch, but with an international match ~3 weeks earlier i dunno.? Would be really interesting, if it is the case, why ANZ is not the go-to venue for U2.

It can’t be ANZ stadium, if it was ANZ stadium, then the ticket sale would be via Ticketmaster. Metallica is playing in ANZ stadium, and these tickets are sold on Ticketmaster.

    U2 aren't "just every band"

All i am saying is they could have shown a little more interest in this part of the world long ago . even mini promo tours to promote a new album , honestly how hard is for two of the four of them to jump on a "QANTAS" flight in 1st class with flatbed for a quick 48hrs?

    Zero!
  10. The Joshua Tree will/might save them this time, but they haven't had a big hit since Vertigo and as said didn't pay that much attention to Australia in the past years, so they can't just expect to sell out those 50.000 plus stadiums multiple times.
