    That's because the loading dock is on the north end of the SCG. The stage was set up in the same place for Wave Aid & Sound Relief. Can't just plonk the stage at the other end of the field.

I hark right back to my very first post on this site about relevance and how they had neglected this part of the world for years and the ramifications of that would be struggling to sell out stadiums, especially if they didn't beat to to the punch some of the big concerts that came online before u2s announcement (QUEEN BUBLE METALICA etc) QUEUE SCG INSTEAD OF ANZ - Again i was howled down for having that view!!

    They're old, & irrelevant. Nothing will change that, unless they can magic up a huge hit (unlikely). They've toured the US just about constantly, & are considered irrelevant there.

    360 sold quite poorly in Sydney, after only a four year break. Vertigo sold much, much better, after a much longer break. Though on the back of a couple of the band's biggest hits.

    In the States they had a number 1 Album with SOE did they not ? And they had the number one billboard dance remix number one also ? Hardly irrelevant ?

    For so long u2 held on to not only popularity but also relevance - for the longevity they have had they truly are the last 'rock' act that will carry such a unique history - which was a word Bono bandied about like confetti, its i guess upsetting that this once iconic band has become the one 'thing' they all said they would never become or would call it quits if they become that one 'thing' , that one thing being a 'heritage act' .... remember the "two crap albums and we are out" quote by Bono ?

    And i thought their last album was up there with their best work , maybe sitting in fourth below Achtung JT Zooropa then SOE.

    There was a rumor that was connected with this whole tour also , the rumor that Larry wants out and the band are calling quits after this tour, at least as a live act, its all gone quiet obviously with the excitement of the actual tour announcement , u2songs or Remy , any further word on that ? I mean you guys had been dead on about this part , that worries me regarding the Larry rumor?
  10. Being from Canada and having never been to Australia, I had no idea about the venue. I ended up with 2 Red Zone tickets. I guess it’s a good thing I stayed away from the seats.
  11. It’s a pity the old football stadium is being demolished as I’m sure they would have preferred to play there again (it was the venue for their ZooTv and Popmart tours in the 90s) being a mid-sized stadium with a rectangular configuration.
    I made the hard decision to not attend. The scg is challenging to get to and I would have preferred a soe tour. We’ve seen the jt 2017 tour and we’ve listened to that album for 32 years. I would have liked to have seen the newer songs.
    I’m not sure if anyone likes the Cure. They played the opera house during vivid and gave the 30th anniversary of Disintegration concerts. In contrast to u2 in 2017, Robert smith only played songs from that era. Ie, b-sides (about 6), then the album, then the encore which consisted of only a few songs.
    I would be much more interested if u2 played a set that consisted of b-sides (silver and gold, sweetest thing, Spanish eyes, luminous times, walk to the water, etc) then went into the jt album then had an encore which featured 3 or 4 songs from rattle and hum (esp since it would be that album’s 30th). hawkmoon, heartland, all I want is you. Perfect representation of the jt era.

    Yeah, I've enjoyed there last couple of albums a lot too. None of the tracks reached the heights of their very best material, but there were very few weak songs. Both consistently strong albums. So I was a bit bummed that Aussie fans wouldn't be getting a chance to see many of these songs live, especially in a more intimate arena setting.

    I wish they'd just make music for themselves & their current fans, & not chase hits. Personally, I feel all of their more recent weaker material has been those attempts at 'hit singles'. Starting with Boots. But hey, maybe they actually enjoy these types of songs more than some of my more recent favourites (like SLABT, The Troubles, LIAWHL, Red Flag Day & Summer of Love).

    But whatever keeps them happy.
