  2. Of the 3 different openers I saw in 2017, I thought OneRepublic was the best.
  4. This has been kicking around in the ol' noggin for a while now, and I've probably said it before here but:

    I realize U2 didn't want to make the last JT tour (and very likely this one) a nostalgia thing, and one of the ways they avoided it (as said on the Zane Lowe interview) was to not use ANY old footage for the video material. The whole idea was to present the music/album as if it had come out in 2017, so that kind of thing was out of the question.

    But...was anyone else kind of disappointed that they didn't use any old footage? I was ready to experience a moment like I see in ZooTV videos when "new Bono" sees "old Bono" on the screen and waves hello at him. I just would've loved to have seen some of that desert footage or even concert footage behind them as they were playing as I always think that's really cool. I LOVE when Bono introduces Out of Control as "we're a band from the North side of Dublin - we're called U2, this is our first single!" - or to use another example, in the first set of "The Wall" concerts by Roger Waters a few years ago, when he played Mother he had footage of his former self playing the same thing from the original Wall tour.

    I dunno - I've just always loved that sort of thing - and while I appreciate that the band didn't want to make it about that, I would've been fine with it (really, I mean that's what it was anyway despite their intentions) and I would've preferred it I think. It might've been cringey for some people, but to me it would've been super cool.

    And he did it frequent enough too! I love that moment too, maybe a 2022 Bono waving at 2017 Bono could be possible who knows?

  9. They still have an opportunity to put 2019 Bono to wave at 2017 Bono.
  10. It's funny how 1993 Bono waving at 1987 Bono seemed like it was such a lifetime ago. Now, it's funny how 2019 Bono doesn't really seem that much different than 1999 Bono. He kind of branded himself at looking and acting a certain way in the post Pop re-invention of U2.

    I agree that some retro footage would be nice. I remember during Streets at the 360 show I saw, they had some of that footage of them walking through the desert during the JT shoot, including the young Bono waving moment. It was actually a moving moment, and the crowd went nuts for it.

    I'm not saying they need to show the band walking around Vegas during ISHF, or the rooftop footage during Streets, but SOME classic footage I think would enhance the experience, and give you a deeper feeling of that album's legacy.
