In this little restaurant in Dalkey sitting just behind us at a big round table with Gugie, Gugie's kids and Bono's kids. A little way into our meal, Ali(his wife) came in with his two youngest to join them... all very strange and coincidental to me as I was having my usual revival of interest in U2(it's a yearly thing) by reading U2byU2... without even thinking I'd be humming Acrobat or Bad or Even Better... not too loud mind...
Anywho, for desert my bro and myself organised a cake and a litlle happy birthday sing-song for my mother and he sang along! AND THEN straight after they're done with my Mum, they move on to Bono.... all very surreal, I swear I was in a daze the whole time!

He was very cool to sing along and wish my Mum happy birthday and my Mum was smitten for weeks and weeks and weeks, bloody ridiculous! I didn't want to be that fan that interupts his family thing for an autograph or some shite, but I kinda regret it.
That was just last year in a place called Nosh... and apparently we're going again for the same occassion... you never know... they're pretty much the exact same age, my Mother and Bono... I'll let you guys know in a few months...

    haha great story man!!
    one lucky mum!
strange to see him so close and in his normal life...
hope for you and you're mum he's there to again!

Sweet story. and good on ya for not interrupting their family time. (Even though it must be soooooooo tempting) and yeah, if I were you, I'd suggest the same restaurant this year!

    Great story!

  6. I have been lucky enough to meet all of them together in Baltimore, Bono and Adam in Atlanta, and Edge and briefly Bono in Philly at a different show. But when my friend and I met Bono in Atlanta, we were actually able to have a conversation with him. I posted it a while ago on my www.bonotheism.com page that I'm currently updating. I'm going to repost the Atlanta story and pics etc. I would say Larry is the most intimidating in person. He was very much in business mode when we met him with the other four in Baltimore. Edge and Adam are very polite, open, friendly. Bono, I was in WAAY too much shock when we met him in Atlanta because there were only like five other people there and it was very low key and wow, I just had a hard time with that. Then, I thought I'd be able to really talk to him if there was a next time. Well, there was and I was still unable to speak. I guess that's just how it goes. For some people, when you get that close, words seem inadequate.

  8. yeah allot .........IN MY DREAMS !!!!
  9. just came back last night from a week in Dublin... and I was lucky enough to meet Bono and The Edge

my friend and me went to the studio on Wednesday (June 11), and when we arrived arround noon there was another fan already waiting who told us she had just spoken to Sam, and he'd said the band would be coming in around 2pm so we stayed and waited.... and one after another came to the studio.... Dallas, Brian Eno, then Larry --> I could only see his face with sunglasses through the car window as he drove into the garage.... half an hour later, The Edge arived as well... only saw his hand on the wheel around 1650 Bono's car arrived (and my heart stopped )... and around 1930 Adam showed up as well.
So we knew they were all in there, inside the studio... so we waited. And waited. It had been raining heavily in the afternoon, and we were all soaked from head to toe and freezing and feeling bad... but still... who would have wanted to leave, knowing the whole band was in that building?!
Around 11pm the "gate" thingy of the garage opened.. and Larry drove out. I could once again only see his face shortly, this time without sunglasses - 5 seconds, and he was gone. Soon afterwards, the garage opened again, and Adam left. He had his window rolled down and waved at us, smiled and said "Bye"
So... it was around close to midnight now, and of the band there was "only" Bono and Edge left in that building. It might have been half past midnight when a taxi stopped in front of the entrance gate, and Brian Eno and Dallas (if I recall correctly, I was close to coma by that time ) left.
Being the Bono girl I am, I was dying inside with the realization that any time now Bono would be coming out... can't tell you how I felt -- and then, at 0130 in the night, with me shaking like a leaf from the cold and from the inner excitement, the garage gate rolled up once again, and someone, I think it was Sam (can't remember that as well, shame on me, I was way beyond exhaustion), drove out Bono's car... when I saw that, I knew Bono had to come out of the main entrance door.. and when I looked left.... there he was!! coming out of the door, heading directly to my direction
Guys, I don't know what to say, after the concerts and everything, this was the first time I met the man "for real", face to face... I still can't believe it. We were about 20 people at that time who still waited, and I happened to be the first one he turned to, and he shook my hand and spoke a few words, then turned to the next person...even though he was very, very tired and you could feel his exhaustion, he took the time to shake everyone's hand and say hello
His voice was very weak, and he said: "I can hardly speak".. and "I'm very tired" -- but still, he was there. Much respect and love for that. He didn't stay long, though, maybe one or two minutes, I can't really tell. I was lucky enough to get a picture of him and myself together before he sat in his car, pushed the horn and drove away I'll post it late. What an experience, to meet him in person... indescribable

As soon as Bono had left, most people left, and it was just my friend and me and someone else still waiting in front of the studio, and while we were debating if Edge would be inside until 4am in the morning and if we should wait for him, being soaked and frozen as we were.... the gargae gate rolled up again, only 5 minutes after Bono had left
Edge backed out his car, waved at the three of us, and stopped right next to us. Sam told us to come over to the driver side, and there we met Edge, sitting in his car. he had rolled down his window, and he said hello and shook our hands, and said we had waited very long in the cold and rain -- what a nice and gentle voice he has!! And his green eyes were amazing, awake and full of laughter sparkling in them... at 0140 in the night
He signed things for my friend and our new friend from the US, and we took a picture -- and then I remembered that I was, by chance, wearing my Music Rising Shirt underneath my jacket. So I asked him if he could possibly sign it, even though it was embarrassing because I was wearing it... but he was very kind, even got out of the car so he could sign it better... and so The Edge stood in front of me, signing the shirt I was wearing. A moment to remember
Our friend from the US asked him about the new album, and he chuckled and said: "Well, let's get the songs finished first", and with a smile and a wink he returned into his car, waved at us again, said his good-bye... and left.

That's it, friends. That's how I met Bono and The Edge 3 days ago. I still can't believe it. Being super rockstars, they are so amazingly down to Earth and friendly, even deep in the night when all they want is drive home and sleep. Much love and respect

  10. excellent story. Long live Dublin
