Last Friday many different factors played their role; the sound was better than the night before; my company was superb, with loads of long term friends as well as my mum and my girl; the audience was SO into it; Spanish Eyes got its best performance since the end of the (original) Joshua Tree Tour; my spot on GA was about perfect, close to everything; the band was absolutely on fire.
I stopped following this tour long ago, disappointed with the poor (and shrinking!) setlists of the US leg. That made me go spoiler-free to Madrid and I didn't know they had swapped Staring At The Sun for Summer Of Love, and American Soul for New Year's Day (thankfully), but also I didn't know they weren't playbacking Love Is All We Have Left either, nor the progression of the show. Therefore everything hit me like a truck on night1. And night2, with my lesson learnt, was absolutely mindblowing.
Everything added up and now Madrid2 ranks as my #1 show ever, just surpassing San Sebastian 2010 which proudly held that title against brilliant shows like Amsterdam4 2015 and Barcelona '09 on the premiere of the biggest tour ever. And now Madrid2, the show I was anticipating the LEAST in my life, has swept everything and left me speechless. I'm truly lost for words.
Here's my video. You can feel the excitement when I recognise the chord Edge was fingering (Dm, I shout "re menor! re menor!! vamos!!" because I totally knew Spanish Eyes was coming). That was the icing of the cake on an already great night. And Love Is Bigger with the final chant going on and on and on (something that didn't happen the night before) was just too much.

I still stand behind this post - which is very rare after one year. What a gig, what a weekend that was. And the end of night2 I gathered much of my U2 friends, my girl, my mum for one of my fav photos ever. There's such a big part of my life within these megapixels:
