  2. Personally, I don't see that. To me, it sits with ATYCLB and HTDAAB although they are the least cohesive trio. I see SOI+SOE as a change in direction due to the narrative and connection between the two. I appreciate your different point of view though.
  3. I’m not sure why everyone is so very eager to get Eno and Lanois back - most folks didn’t seem to like NLOTH very much... but, I suppose having quite a hand in some of U2’s most memorable music would help.

    Honestly, I was really hoping they’d say they were planning on working with that Andy Barlow fellow again. I wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up adding more producers as it goes, of course...

  5. I loved the last 3 albums (NLOTH, SOI & SOE) it would be perfect to do something different, I like the idea, something like "Book of your Heart" or "The troubles"
  6. Lanois is 68. Eno is 71. The band members will be rounding 60 in the next couple years. It’s really time to stop chasing the pop charts. I would love to hear what these Fab 6 could come up with, were they not burdened by their own need to conform to what their version of relevant is.

    Burdened or not, I would take any music the band plus Eno and Lanois make over anything Ryan Tedder produces any day of the week...

    Ryan Tedder isn't the sole producer they had 9 on SOE so how anyone can say which particular parts he did is bizarre,In the end the band are responsible for the quality and the sound of the song they are always tinkering with the songs adding and taking parts out and drive the producer's mad with their obsession for perfection .

    Yes, I agree with you, and I've always thought of the trilogy thing (even before SOI appeared). Whether they're conscious or not, their career can be split in more-or-less coherent trilogies, so finishing this era (and their career?) with SOA is just... The thing to do.

    Although I'm torn between that idea and the other one that's been doing the rounds since years ago... Calling their last album "Man".

    Agreed. It was a proven formula until it wasn't - you can only catch lightning in a bottle so many times, and being that NLOTH was maybe one of their worse albums (in my opinion) - I don't want them to try going up that alley again when it didn't work so well the last time. Not unless they were committed to releasing an album without worrying about performing, chart positions, etc. (which is what caused them to add songs like Boots to the album).

    IF the next one is their last album, then yeah - there's no other choice. I really don't see U2 doing it, they're not nostalgic like a lot of their fans are - but not calling their final album Man would be a hugely wasted opportunity.

    I've said this before to much disagreement, but I'd even be okay with "Man" being the final album they record - but it being a re-recording of Boy, all this time later. Let Bono frig around with the lyrics if he wants (he does it live anyway), let the band change up the arrangements if they want, etc. I think it'd be a really cool way to cap off their career, revisiting those tunes but having done everything in-between.

    What would that album look like all these years later? Would I Will Follow change from being about Bono's mother following him, to Bono following his own children? Would Out of Control be more about waking up in an older man's body, but still with that fiery rage inside?"Monday Morning, 60 years of dawning, still say hoooow loooong" - that might seem cheesy to some but it's cool as hell to me. Would A Day Without Me turn from a tongue-in-cheek song about arrogance to a self-reflection of what impact Bono has had on the world? Would it be better? Worse?

    Fuck I want that to happen.
  11. I would suggest a next album title of '2U'. An album for the decades long fans. And for God's sake, please unleash Larry Mullen Jr. and allow him to be his old self. You know when he could lead the way and hit the drums and crash the cymbals like he used to (ala... Sunday Bloody Sunday, Bullet The Blue Sky, Acrobat, Desire). I'm tired of hearing the drums way in the background mix sounding like cardboard boxes and trash can lids.

    They have their fans like us who love them whether they are topping the charts or not.
    U2 blew me away with their creativity and unique sound.
    they have become with the help of Tedder et al dumbed down
