Sounds promising. I've been listening to Pop a lot today and I have to say that it really would be great if the new album would be as radical of a departure from the norm as it was. The more I think about it the more it feels like the only way to go for the band this time around. After two "normal" albums the band is required to go abnormal to keep things balanced.
Thanks! Well, I'm a male. I dig U2. I live in Helsinki. And what else.. um.. um..?![]()

I think it's gonna sound familiar, but I have faith there's gonna be great tunes that will probably start off as ehh and then grow on you like hell. At least that's how I was with Window in the Skies & ATYCLB, and that's how I am with most U2.

I agree. But they could still go experimental as they did with Pop wich I think it's the only natural way after the last two albums. Edge himself complained in Q magazine that the last album wasn't experimental enough. So what ever form the new album takes I'm sure they'll be taking more changes with it than with the last two.

Exactly, U2met86! (or something close.) It's what I've described as a brain washing.. You know it's U2, so it's probably going to be good; just takes a few listens to get accustomed to the new sounds. This is the only message board I've ever been on (forgive me if I go off topic) but that's kind of how Window In the Skies was for me too, till I saw version 2? on YouTube? (various music legends singing the words) and heard it Live, Saitama, thanks to you guys. (GREAT Boot, by the way! Thanks Remy for voting it best! (`think even Bono's surprised at his voice on that one on New Year's Day?) Back in the day, the punk rock girls were into U2 the first trilogy.. and us heavy metal punks were wondering about the sexuality of them. But when Seven CD sides at 7 came on 98 Rock in Baltimore, one fateful 1984 night, 9th grade homework.. one couldn't help come under the spell of those atmospheric, ambient sounds; gently pleading vocals; earnest.

Plus it is likely some people will be disappointed, simply because they find something bad about the record. But I think with stuff like Window In The Skies, Bono and Edge's comments, the beach recordings and how good they played on the Vertigo 5th leg (and what a leg!) this will be one to not be disappointed by. If it is anything like Pop or ATYCLB then it's gonna be good.
To be honest, I cannot wait for it - three years without new material!! But hip-hop - nope. I think it is gonna be more acoustic and possibly more mellow, more back to the days of ATYCLB - and remember this album will likely contain the outtakes from HTDAAB fixed up.
