  1. Last AUS/NZ shows experiences? That region always has seen lesser recordings released than other regions.
    Like we have actually the complete 360 tour out there - but some AUS/NZ shows are still missing. More than other any other leg.

    Sadly, we don't get enough opportunities to practice and perfect recording shows down here.

    I also taped the show, but with CA-14 Cardioid-microphones, I'll share it once the recording has been edited.
  6. Quite sure you have some talented young bands down there, that play tons of shows you can use for practicing.

    Practicing taping does not need a huge act in a stadium only to do so. Know your equipment and you can tape any location and genre. Even in the worst spot a taper can find themself in (like hanging so close almost on stage, you literally sit between 2 guitars and a drumkit or between some monitors of the band or at the back of a building made of glass and metal so you have echo or whatever).
    After that, practice editing

    You don't need to tape 100 U2 shows to get a decent U2 recording.

    An average recording is still better than no recording at all.

    A U2 concert isn’t the place to experiment!

Based on two things: 1) the fact that the Southern Hemisphere tours are always less and worse covered in terms of recordings, and 2) the unavoidable trend of less and less U2 gigs being properly taped and shared since 2015. We discussed this in another thread not long ago. There are less tapers willing to tape and share, andbecause the interest for full recordings has decreased in general. You only have to compare the number of downloads for 2005/2009 shows here or in U2torrents vs the number of download for 2017/2018 gigs... Vast difference.
  11. Of course it is. ANY tape is an experiment. There are always circumstances you cannot foresee.
    Plus - there are still tapers eager and willing to give their best, but they cannot afford to attend many shows and/or travel to do so. So they pick a few gigs they really want to see and give it a shot. And this is exactly what we should encourage people to do. Otherwise, the "old folks" leave or stop taping/sharing and there are no tapers coming after them.

    The more practice on "less important" gigs is better, no doubt. But for some, there are no "less important" gigs for whatever reason. For me, every gig is important and I am sad if a recording turns out bad for any reason. Even more on the smaller gigs and lesser known bands as I am fully aware I am the only taper in that particular gig. (Or even more important in that case - I meanwhile suspect being the only taper in my area who is really taping a lot locally.)

    I do not differ between recording a U2 show or a-ha or Some Sprouts (presumably the least known band I taped this year). Still, the chance is a lot higher, there is probably another taper in a U2 show.

    So - people should just start out and tape. Any gig no matter how small or big the venue or how known or not the band. If it happens to be a U2 gig for the first tape - then be it - still better to try and get something than not trying at all.
  12. Disagree somewhat. I generally approach every show taping experience to maximize the pull with gear I have on hand. Before every major u2 run, I'll typically do a show or two just to shake off any rust. Also will do some shows if only to test new equipment or gear modifications.

    But agree with central point. Get as much experience taping as possible. I know somebody that I helped with recording in 2017, didn't do any practice in between. Struck out completely in Brisbane, and got an average at best in Melbourne. I think he would have done much better had he practiced in the off season.
