And there's a 'story' which goes along the lines of Torres wondering why he always gets booed and berated by the Liverpool fans whenever he plays against us and a fan reportedly replying 'We hate you so much because we loved you so much'.
And I feel this applies to my all-time favourite band.
I LOVED their early stuff and all albums pre 2000 (including their 2 greatest - 3 if you count POP which I do) and when I hear some of the newer stuff then I more often than not find myself unimpressed considering their talent and legacy.
This does not stop me from seeing them in concert whenever I can and if I met Bono then I'd be overwhelmed and probably stutter and stammer and sound like a complete idiot ha ha

But don't confuse my 'hate' with real hate - as I think some fans do. Those type of fans that believe that U2 cannot do anything wrong. Those type of fans that think U2 cannot be criticised.
They are OUR band and we can say whatever we bloody want.
If I listen to Love Is Blindness and then listen to Every Breaking Wave then I want to cry - and not for the right reasons.
If I hear Get On Your Boots and The Best Thing and then remember how I felt when I first heard Streets and Please and have to remind myself that this is that same band.
Yeh, I know as fans that we cannot live in the past and that the band want to move forward and that they have released some cracking tunes in the last 2 decades, but fcuk me if I haven't rolled my eyes on more than one occasion post 2000
