Yeah they borrowed props from the James Bond film that had been shot in Mexico City, thinking they'd be able to get permission later, but one of the artists wasn't interested, and U2 couldn't get permission in the end. It was written about in La Reforma a few weeks after the shows there in 2017. (Corbijn was there to film those shows...which are supposed to make up the basis of The Joshua Tree film whenever it gets scheduled post virus...)

    I remember Beautiful Day getting used quite a lot on TV during the Olympic Games in Sydney which started on 15th September so that date sounds about right.

    Don’t know about officially available,but I remember getting it by late August 2000 in mp3 format from a U2 fan site,possibly u2mp3s dot com.But don’t quote me on that.I certainly played it to death on late August Bank Holiday in the UK,that is certain lol And 20 years ago seems like yesterday,unbelievable.
  12. “Beautiful Day” was the first single from the album All That You Can’t Leave Behind. It was released to radio on August 31, 2000, with the commercial single appearing in shops on October 9 throughout most of the world, and October 10 in Canada.

    I can also remember hearing it for the first time on the radio, it was in our local, annual 'feestweek' and that probably was indeed August 31 or September 1. Maybe we're all a bit bored of the song by now, but I still think it's a very special song which really captures the feeling of that era (with the Olympics, that video clip and non U2 fans that were suddenly excited about U2 etc).
