1. He uses the blue tele on Instant Karma I think. I dont suppose you can list all the guitars that drowned?

As far as innovative guitarist go, Pat Smear, the origianl guitarist from Foo Fighters was pretty good. None of his replecements have been able to play Everlong quite right(and suck at harmonys). Thats probally why they play it mostly acoustic with just Dave for most of it nowadays.

He did use the 1966 Lake Placid Blue Fender Telecaster for "Instant Karma".

All of the drowned guitars... not certain of all of them but here are a few thoughts and confirmed bits.

The 1967 Ric 330 12-string was drowned. Dallas told me that.

The 2001 Fernandes Native Pro (metallic green finish / used for WOWY on the Elevation tour) drowned, per the artist rep I spoke to at Fernandes. In fact, the day I called Fernandes, Andres had just got off the phone with Dallas to tell him that the replacement was on it's way. (The black Retro Rocket)

Per Dallas "a lot of gear was damaged or lost".
Per Andres at Fernandes: Almost all of their gear, except what they had at the Super Bowl, was damaged or destroyed."

This might leave out some items that were not at HQ, such as guitars at Bono, Adam and Edge's homes plus some of the older gear and drums that Larry has stored (reportedly) is a warehouse.
  3. I'm sure they didn't leave it all there, since a number of Explorers, Strats, and LP's survived. Also, I think using the blue SG could be cool.

The all black Strat wasn't THE Strat from yesteryear. It seems to have appeared after the flood and in time for the Special Olympics show that U2 played.

So will not all was there or all destroyed, by all accounts many items were damaged or irreversibly destroyed by the flood.

THIS being a good reason why The Edge could completely sympathize with Katrina area/Gulf Coast musicians that lost some/all of their instruments. Edge even has mentioned that he was 'ironically' in New Orleans when he and the band lost gear to a flood.

    Fixed my error. Good catch.

On Edge's pic, the blurb underneath reads "click photo for more info on the gear used by Larry"

    Just another little pointer...

Great site there mate! Good work! I'll be delving into the archives for a long time yet...

  6. So do you actually know Dallas, or what? Or do you just have a tendency to run into him. Also, I'm making a list of performances were you can see him. So far I have Live 8. He can be seen prepping an Explorer during SGT Peppers.

Eventually, each guitar listed will be a link to more information and pics of that guitar. Example?

The page will have something like this -

    Make: GIBSON
Model: LES PAUL STANDARD / 30th Anniversary Goldtop
Finish: GOLD (Gold top w/ mahogany neck, back and sides)
    Vintage: 1983

    USE:
    - Stage: "Last Night On Earth" (Popmart), "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" (Popmart), "Until The End Of The World" (Popmart / Elevation / Vertigo)
    - Studio: uncertain
    - Video: Popmart: Live from Mexico City, Elevation: Live from Boston, U2 Go Home: Live From Slane Castle (etc)

Notes: FIrst seen live during the 1997-1998 Popmart tour. The Edge used this Les Paul 30th Anniversary Goldtop for "Last Night On Earth" and "Hold Me, Thrill Me..."

That seem good? Plus I will put pics of each guitar.

    Yes, that's great!

I've met Dallas a number of times over the years, starting around the ZOO tours.

During the Elevation tour, I made some shirts that said: SCHOO 2. Dallas saw me wearing mine at the Oakland show and handed me one of The Edge's guitar picks.

A few days later in Los Angeles, I gave (1) to Dallas and (1) to The Edge. The crew must have seen the shirts because someone took the idea a little farther and made "SCHOO 2: Close To The Edge" shirt for all of the crew for closing night of Elevation in Miami. SOMEWHERE I've a picture of one of the crew wearing one... I'll have to search my computer.

I'd often see Dallas around 3pm when he'd finished his setup or at times after shows. Always one for a smile and a kind word. And always willing to answer basic questions. By that meaning he's not at liberty to tell you the exact effects chain and settings for a song but if you've a question about a guitar or piece of gear he's always been kind enough to answer.

During the Vertigo shows, I had GA tickets for most of the shows that I attended. The two spring `05 LA shows being the only one's that I had seats.

At LA # 1, I was sitting in my seat with my SCHOO 2 shirt on. While most were starting to enter the arena, WHO crossed over the bar at the bottom of the seats and starts walking up my aisle but Dallas Schoo! He looked over and saw my shirt and let out a big "Hey buddy" and shook my hand. We talked for a few mins and then he had to go to the doors to get someone in. So I'm sitting there and 5 mins later... a tap on my shoulder... It's Dallas again! This time with his wife and some friends. He'd stopped to introduce them to me! Another show of what a nice guy and class act that Dallas Schoo truly is. We talked for a few mins and then he had to get back to work... he handed me a few picks and off he went.

Dallas Schoo - the unsung hero of U2. Without him, Edge would be in a mess and the band wouldn't be the live force they are today.

    All hail the Schoo!
