I've met Dallas a number of times over the years, starting around the ZOO tours.

During the Elevation tour, I made some shirts that said: SCHOO 2. Dallas saw me wearing mine at the Oakland show and handed me one of The Edge's guitar picks.

A few days later in Los Angeles, I gave (1) to Dallas and (1) to The Edge. The crew must have seen the shirts because someone took the idea a little farther and made "SCHOO 2: Close To The Edge" shirt for all of the crew for closing night of Elevation in Miami. SOMEWHERE I've a picture of one of the crew wearing one... I'll have to search my computer.

I'd often see Dallas around 3pm when he'd finished his setup or at times after shows. Always one for a smile and a kind word. And always willing to answer basic questions. By that meaning he's not at liberty to tell you the exact effects chain and settings for a song but if you've a question about a guitar or piece of gear he's always been kind enough to answer.

During the Vertigo shows, I had GA tickets for most of the shows that I attended. The two spring `05 LA shows being the only one's that I had seats.

At LA # 1, I was sitting in my seat with my SCHOO 2 shirt on. While most were starting to enter the arena, WHO crossed over the bar at the bottom of the seats and starts walking up my aisle but Dallas Schoo! He looked over and saw my shirt and let out a big "Hey buddy" and shook my hand. We talked for a few mins and then he had to go to the doors to get someone in. So I'm sitting there and 5 mins later... a tap on my shoulder... It's Dallas again! This time with his wife and some friends. He'd stopped to introduce them to me! Another show of what a nice guy and class act that Dallas Schoo truly is. We talked for a few mins and then he had to get back to work... he handed me a few picks and off he went.

no business like Schoo business! When I saw them in Atlanta and Charlotte on the Vertigo tour, when the Dallas made his walk around the ramp we all started shouting his name as he walked by, it was more intense in Atlanta but he was very gracious threw a few picks out, waved, he seems a bit shy but really seems like a genuinely nice guy which you have just attested to!

Yepper. He's a good guy. It's easy to see why The Edge keeps Dallas as his tech and why when not touring with U2... TONS of other bands was Dallas to take care of their gear.

Before U2 he'd worked with Prince, Mr. Mister... He's taken care of Nils Lofgren's guitars when he's toured with Bruce... He took care of guitars for one or more of McCartney's guitarists...

So yeah, cool guy and he knows his stuff.

    all hail the Schoo
  4. He is truly a class act.
  5. Here's another of The Edge's long lost guitars...

    (Looks like he's playing "...Streets...")

The Edge seemed to have a 'thing' for Clapton model Strats during Love Town. Mostly, I've seen video and pics of him using the yellow one... The charcoal one with the skeleton and snake painted on it was pretty cool too. I've seen less pics of him with the Torino Red... But it's still a pretty cool one.

Wonder why he's gone away from these... Wonder where the yellow and red ones are now? (Well, now I've more questions for Dallas!) The charcoal one was at the R&R Hall of Fame in 2003-2004. I must have stood and stared at that thing for an hour. I have a similar one in pewter (slightly lighter shade than the charcoal) but no Rene' Castro painted snake and skeleton on mine (Damn!!!)

Piccy below is of 4 of my 10 guitars:

    Left to Right:
2002 Taylor Big Baby (signed by Daniel Lanois), 2004 Gibson J-185 12-string acoustic, 1998 Fender "Eric Clapton" model Stratocaster (the pearl pick guard was 'after-market' as the plain white `50's style one that it comes with was a bit boring for my taste) and 1976 Gibson Ltd. Ed. Explorer (just like our guitar hero's)

NOTE: the 12" frames singles on the wall. (Yep, I'm a fan!)

Here's a close up of Lanois siggy on my Taylor acoustic...

Lest I forget my 2002 Rickenbacker 330 6-string (with Edge used/Edge approved "vintage pickups" in the lovely and rare Burgundy-glo finish. (Next to my Explorer, this is my baby)

Last but not least and not even near 1/2 the gear...

Vox Pathfinder practice amp. Boss TU-12 tuner on top. Below the amp is a Digitech IPS33B for "shimmer"/orchestral sounds that Edge gets (think like the end of RTSS during ZOOTV), Korg SDD-2000 delay and (2) Korg A3 units with SPC-01 cards. (The Korg is the unit that Edge used TONS for Achtung Baby and Zooropa - Mysterious Ways sound=Korg A3... that crazy sound at the beginning of "Lady With The Spinning Head? Korg A3. Numb? You guessed it - Korg A3.
  6. Nice gear. Most people I know use SGs through Marshalls.

Jeff, that really is nice gear! Although the pic with Edge and the Torino red strat...it looks like he's wearing an eye patch!
  8. Edge used that Red one for Desire for some of the Australian Lovetown gigs

Thanks. Yep, I've worked hard and saved and have some nice toys. The Explorer was actually a gift from my former girlfriend. Melissa is the best and we're still super close.

    Other fun guitars...

Fender Telecaster Custom simlar to the one Edge used in the Vertigo video.
    12 string Danelectro electric.
6 string electric Danelectro (like the one Jimmy Page uses for Kashmir).
Washburn EA20 acoustic. (Similar to the one Bono plays in the With Or Without you video).

    And lest I forget...
...my Epiphone Music Rising Les Paul.

SO I'd say that I have a U2 collection of things (CDs, books, DVDs, magazines...) but I also have a collection of Edge/U2 related instruments (guitars, amps and effects)

Well many have referred to that "period" as Pirate The Edge. (the long hair and bandana's and such)
  12. As for that piccy of The Edge with the red Clapton Stratocaster...

I used that picture and made an Edun T-shirt on Zazzle.com

    FRONT:
Has the piccy of The Edge with the red Clapton Strat. Below the picture it says:
"All I've got is a (RED) guitar...

    and on the back:
    "...three chords and the truth"
