1. I heard this song was going to be a single but they had to cancel it due to Bono not being able to hit the high notes live.

I think this would of made a great single and it's a shame they have never played it live as it's one of my favourites.

    Anyone else really like it?
  2. I like it, I think heaps of others do. Pity it hasn't ever been performed live...not that I know of.
  3. this song is great. But I really think they could play it live, though the high notes will be ver difficult to reach.
  4. I love it, but at the time I hate it because I can't sing it well!!

Absolutely agree!!! Bono reaches higher notes in Pride, in Bad and even in Sunday Bloody Sunday. They don't play RHMT because they don't want.
  5. Per my chat with Steve Averill of Four5ONE in June 2003

    1) Yes it was to have been the 2nd single from the Joshua Tree.
    2) The artwork it was to have used was the piccy of Bono that was later used for "In Gods Country" and "One Tree Hill
    3) There is a video for "Red Hill Mining Town" and it is actually decent - per Steve Averill
    4) It was nixed as the 2nd single, in favour of "I Still Haven't Found..."
    5) It was nixed as it wasn't working out in tour rehearsals and the band felt "why release a song as a single, if you are not gonna play it every night.

Ofcourse while all the above are true, per Steve Averill, and he'd know, they didn't quite follow # 5 during the 1992/1993 ZOO tours when they release "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses" in the FALL of 1992/around the oopening of the Outside Broadcast and proceeded to STOP playing the song!

Oh well... U2 are a funny bunch.

    unfortunately..that's true
Red Hill is one of my favourite songs and I hope that someday U2 decide to play it live

You're right, Who's Gonna Ride... was released under special circumstances. They still had two full legs of tour to complete and needed support. They expected the single to keep the expectative alive, but they realized they couldn't tour another year by getting singles out of Achtung Baby, so decided to record Zooropa...

Yes, absolutely. They played other songs with high notes every night, like Where The Streets Have No Name or With Or Without You (which, by the way, is in the same key as Red Hill). And also they could arrange it to play a little lower like they do in other songs. I don't buy the high notes explanation.

Absolutely ! And if Bono really can't sing that notes (what i don't believe...) he'd sing at a bit lower...
Or he'd avoid them, like when he had troubles with his voice on the PopMart-tour...

It's a shame of the song, i'd like to hear it live once...
  11. Once...there will be a great, final concert, a farewell-tour, where U2 will play all the songs they never played before like: Acrobat, When I Look At the World and Red Hill Mining Town..that would be great!

Great idea! But I won't mind if they play these great songs the next tour!
