We'll try not to. A few Aussies around here I can remember:

    Stu (Melbourne): http://u2start.com/user/profile/1098/
    Colbourne (Melbourne?): http://www.u2start.com/user/profile/1297/
    gimp2u23 (originally from Adelaide): http://www.u2start.com/user/profile/2682/
    andyrooh (Sydney): http://www.u2start.com/user/profile/7489/

And us three. There's others but I can't find links to their profiles.

  2. Cool. I'll look out for them. A pretty good representation for such a big site. Do you get the feeling the lads under-estimate how popular they still are down here? Australia getting ditched on the Elevation Tour is still a painful memory.

Lets see - its relatively warm in Queensland - and here it feels like 5C outside right now. But I won't hold that against you

Well, Adelaide missed out - twice - in a row for Pop and Elevation. But we got one of the best ZooTV shows of all time - the DVD is not bad of it either.

We're actually getting a real cold snap here right now which has taken everybody by surprise. Cold weather is news. It was second story on TV tonight. Go figure. But yeah the weather is pretty great here almost all the time.

Re: Elevation. I just don't get it. They would have had sold-out crowds. It was such a great, emotional tour in many respects and Australians would have come out in droves. When I heard the news that they weren't touring I actually thought it was either a misreport or it was just a rumour and they would eventually come down here. I'm still coming to terms with it. I'll try to catch two shows next time, something tells me it could be one of their last.

Yeah, at least we got Pop. I'm going to check out Gerard's iPod ready Adelaide show some time. I'm genuinely interested.

It's not bad but there is like a Venus-god animation type thing during New Year's Day for the first half, and if you know what the sound is like from Los Angeles 1987-11-18 you have that same sound - hardly any audience whatsoever.

I'm not so sure. They've signed that Live Nation deal for twelve years, so possibly three more tours (and three more albums) - they're almost 50, so that would make them almost 60 when they finish that deal - but then they might sign more. They've been going for the best part of 30+ years, so I'm pretty sure almost half a century of some of the modern world's greatest music is more than enough - then hopefully they release their entire discography, remastered and with loads of unreleased stuff.

I doubt you'll see the end of them for a long time yet - but their creative peak has been hit, but not innovation yet. You've got artists like Alice Cooper, Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, James Brown, BB King...who are all approaching 50, 60, 70-80 years old, so U2 is more than well equipped to keep up with them. However, I can imagine Bono's vocals at 60 - it's not gonna be pretty.
