A concert is a shared experience. The whole point is to get a message from the musicians to the fans, in a way that has an effect on each and every person in the audience, and that most certainly includes the effect that the audience has on one another. To meet a stranger who may disagree with you on EVERYTHING else but for those few hours you're friends, etc. etc. All of that disappears with headphones. When I first saw U2 I became best friends with 4 guys sitting behind me who were also massive fans. We sang together, we talked, we had a blast. If I have headphones, the world around me is shut out and it's just me an U2. That's cool, but if I want that experience I'll watch a DVD.

I agree 100%. My best 4 minutes ever at a live show was Springsteen in Gothenburg 2012. He played a rare outtake from The river called "Where the bands are" a complete stranger Swedish girl beside me took my hand and we jumped up and down together singing our hearts out for 4 minutes in complete oblivion. Bruce always says that In concert means that he and The E street Band and the audience are all in concert together. I'm not a big fan of IEM bootlegs for this reason - the crow is part of the song IMO

Maybe its just that I've never had high quality earphones that really isolate the sound... I usually can still hear the traffic or whatever while I'm listening music, so I'd guess that I would still be able to hear the sound coming from the huge sound system in the stadium/arena even if I'm listening to the soundboard in the app...

AGAINST
Since Zoo TV, Australia has always been towards the end of the tour - only changed for 360 due to Bono's back.
U2 traditionally tour Australia in Nov-Jan or Feb-Mar to fit into the sports/stadium schedules
No indoor shows have occurred in Oz in the 80's
FOR
Australia's dollar is forecast to drop 10%-15% - maybe U2 want to get in before it happens?
Using the newly unveiled arena stage would mean they aren't reliant on stadium availability.
Bringing a arena show to Oz would make us for Elevation missing us entirely and allow maximum value to be recouped from using the same design across additionally shows
For those who aren't aware, a few different music stars come and camp in Australia for months on end. Particularly I'm thinking of Pink who did 58 shows (out of 150) in Australia for her Funhouse Tour and another 46 shows (out of 143) for her next tour - Live Nation also organize Pinks Tour
I'm guessing only time will truly tell!
