The one time they needed Bono to play guitar was when Edge played piano on Original of the species - did he ? NO !! Then when Terry played piano & Edge played guitar of course Bono played guitar too. I love the 1983 MTV interview with Adam and Larry where they are asked about Bono playing guitar (on A day without me & I fall down) and they say "Bono wears guitar" LOL What I will miss is the odd occasion when he surprised us by doing good solo performances of things like Norwegian wood
  2. He did played guitar and enriched some songs. He's a good guitar player.
I'm sure his guitar skills will be missed every now and then.

But obviously it shouldn't affect anything beyond making a couple of adjustments here and there, and the huge majority of people won't even notice.

The only important thing is that playing guitar is a great way to channel your thoughts and worries and feelings and that's what he'll miss the most,
  3. I'm not so much thinking about his guitar play, but more about how he feels, whether it's still hurting him, whether he'll feel hindered or not himself performing on tour, whether he'll realize he can't do it after a few weeks. that's what worries me. it did before and it does after the article. all that "we saw him clap his hands" is an arguement I'm not buying. bono is a very phsyical performer, this might be a bigger deal for him than people might wanna realize. I'll be glad to see it's not so, but until then

  4. I think they are going for a longer intermission to equip Bono with his bionic arm-piece that will allow him to play guitar for the rest of the night.

That is a fantastic post. We all worry about Bono.

When footballers get into their mid 30's, they have to adapt to the fact that they cannot do the things they used to. They cant run around the pitch like they are 21 years of age. In the very best, they compensate and become different players. They slow down, use their footballing brains and in the very best, this makes them even better.

U2 have created an album full of emotion, and if ever there was an album / tour for Bono to reinvent himself as a singer and front man - then this is the tour to do it.

We don't need a rampaging Bono, a running round the arena in 'streets' (Elevation tour), or a jumping in the crowd Bono. We just need Bono to 'sing his heart out' every night and make us feel the emotion in every song he sings.

The Jools Holland Performances are a perfect example. EBW gave me goosebumps.

    My thoughts exactly...

Ok, he might not be the best guitar player ever. But he certainly did enjoy it. It's always heartbreaking when you can't do anything you love anymore.

  8. Furthermore :

    - About the break. Well, they're in their 50's. If we want a great and energetic show, they SHOULD rest a while midway through.

    - EBTTRT - Desire : awesome ! Miracle Drug : lovely ! Playboy Mansion/One Step Closer : oh god why?

    - Changing the original plan of 2 different shows : rip-off. Letting people buy tickets for (at least) 2 shows so they could see both, then it's mainly the same thing...

    - Mobile recording studio : fuck yeah.

I am with you here! Not sure I believe the rumor but would actually love to see them do this song. Might be in the minority here, but I think this song is an underrated little jam - a nice, laid-back groove to it, with Bono's trademark lyrics from this era of searching for God in the trash of modern consumerism.

And if Playboy Mansion played the same kind of role that TTTYAATW did during Zoo TV, it might lead nicely into an acoustic set midway during the concert (before or after the "intermission"?)

    I'd really like that!

And I honestly love this song so whatever. Bring it!
  11. Also I'm getting really excited about the idea of Cedarwood Road opening! If it's true about starting in the dark with a single light over his head, I'd kind of like to see just Bono and starting the acoustic version and then BAM rock out.

You know what? I'm kind of glad that they two completely different shows. I kept wondering if I made the right choice as to which show I was attending!
